Always a pleasure going here, online system is easy to use for bookings, reception are lovely and friendly and my doctor is wonderful and very generous with his time. I’ve always recommended this place to friends due to the high level of care given.
For over 10 years we've used them as a whole family. Sadly now entirely refuse to go near them. Perhaps the worst most greedy poorly run business I've ever had the displeasure to deal with and this has been the consistent experience for probably the past few years at least. The final experience was a doctor who advised child to use honey for a cough who subsequently within 48 hours of that appointment ended up in ICU and transferred to Melbourne. While there will be professional consequences and such according the health complaints commissioner this won't help that the quality of care has vanished and it's all about the opportunity to sting you full fees these days. I recommend you avoid them like your life depends on it!
Great practice, friendly staff and Dr Sarah Duke is very thorough
20 years of using this Clinic, the experience ? Doctors generally excellent though obviously overworked. Telephone service, all forms WOEFUL, totally unacceptable. Impossible to contact or even return THEIR calls. Admin/Reception staff usually very good, except an antivax opinion expressed by one reception staff member with a "super immune system", hopefully she no longer works there.
Ballarat Group Practice website shows 38 doctors available over 3 sites. In 15 years I’ve started with 3 of their doctors. As a medical practice it is inefficient and more expensive than others. I think BGP is simply too big to be good value for its patients. If you’re OK to wait 10 or 20 days to see a doctor, the BGP is an OK medical practice. If you’re not OK waiting that long, go elsewhere. As a bloke in my late 60s I deal with minor niggles that mostly fix themselves with time and sometimes advice from a pharmacist. When I call a doctor it’s because I’m in pain or distress. I think I need professional help straight away. Last October I tried to call my BGP doctor. After 28 minutes on hold listening to the endless recorded message imploring me to ‘dial triple zero or go online to make an appointment’, I hung up and went online. I was in pain. The earliest appointment for ’my’ doctor was 10 days away. I went back to phone. Any doctor I could see that day or the next would do. But I couldn’t get beyond the endless recorded message to say that. I went online again to systematically work through the list of doctors for an appointment with minimum wait time. I could not improve on the 10 days to see ‘my’ doctor. So I made the appointment for 10 days away and bought more Nurofen and Panadol. At the appointment I was charged a fee over and above the bulk billing rebate for a concession card holder. The fee was not a lot but is more than I get charged elsewhere. I was sent for an ultrasound and an ultrasound-guided injection if warranted. I was in pain. The earliest available appointment for that treatment was 15 days away. I went to find another doctor. I needed a practice that could answer the phone without putting me on indefinite hold, that had a manageable client list, and that could see me when I was in pain or distress. I found a new doctor and still had to deal with the delay for ultrasound, but pain management drugs and advice were provided. I think BGP is simply too big to be good value for its patients.
I would like to complain about how shocking the phone lines have been, the receptionist and the booking system itself. You cannot book online unless it’s a private billing appointment then you try to phone through, wait times are massive, then the phone lines get cut off, no one calls back and then your appointments that you have made on that phone call are cancelled. I booked an appointment for my sons needles, it took me 6 phone calls, 3 of the receptionist had no idea what I was trying to book in, even though it was just immunisations, then it cut off all the other times, then a few days later I get a phone call saying it was booked wrong and it needs to be rebooked, then after the phone line being cut off another 3 times I finally book another time in, then the next day I have a reminder text message for my original appointment, super frustrating and I think I will be looking elsewhere for a different GP purely for the fact I can’t book any appointments without issues.
Beware. This practice does not care if you have a valid reason for not being able to make your appointment. The fact you can never get through to anyone when calling, leaves no alternatives. You will charged a $55 no attendance fee. I wont be back. Poor service. They don't even deserve 1 star, but no other option
Dr Ammar is fantastic and a pleasure to deal with. The reason why I've rated BGP as 1 star and not 5 though is due to the terribly long wait time when trying to call in, being a medical practice, one would think that the phones would eventually be answered but no, 11 mins on hold and still no answer, it's only 10h40am so pretty ridiculous in my opinion considering the number of staff working at the reception area
Big thank you to the efficient and compassionate nursing staff at The Arch, especially Deb. All were very nice to me on both occasions I attended for covid vaccinations.
Very short wait time. Easy parking. Pleasant surroundings with ample seating. Great doctors who are friendly and knowledgeable. Pharmacy on premises. What more could anyone ask for?!
