I recently dined at Thai Riffic in Newtown, Sydney, and had a fantastic experience. The atmosphere was welcoming and lively, with attentive staff who were both friendly and efficient. The menu offers a wide array of traditional Thai dishes, but the standout for me was their fried rice. The fried rice was exceptional—perfectly seasoned, with just the right amount of wok-charred flavor, and packed with fresh ingredients that elevated the dish. It was a simple yet comforting plate of food done incredibly well, and it left a lasting impression. The portions were generous, and the pricing felt fair for the quality of the food and the experience. While the restaurant was busy, service remained prompt and smooth. Overall, Thai Riffic is a wonderful spot for Thai cuisine in Newtown. I’d rate it a solid 8 out of 10 and highly recommend the fried rice—it’s a must-try! I’ll definitely be back to sample more of their offerings.
We went to dinner with several friends group of 4 we arrived at 6.30 without booking and the restaurant had space for us. The staff was very friendly and they extended the happy hour for 30 more minutes which was very kind. House beer is $5, and cocktails are half price. The food was delicious. We ordered several dishes to share. and in total for 6 dishes, 4 beers, and 4 cocktails, we paid a total of $224, which I think is a good price.
Satay chicken and red curry was basically a soup very runny tasted absolutely disgusting and looked gross Pineapple fried rice tasted nice but had 3 huge chunks of tofu in there and hardly any rice ordered this vegetarian and still charged the full price for chicken and prawn. Noodles were ordered for my kids this tasted like it was either old or uncooked Entree was okay and sizzling seafood But overall staff were rude but can’t blame them when they have such a terrible boss. She was on the phone to her staff I don’t know what she spoke about but the staff kept explaining all these issues to her and I asked to speak to the boss I explained everything she said you are paying for everything even tho 3 meals were not eaten She is extremely rude and very unpleasant to talk to you can tell all she cares about is the money she will basically serve anything and make you pay The staff did not want to charge me for the meals we didn’t eat as they can clearly see how bad the meals were but the ‘boss’ said we have to pay!
We arrived at Thairiffic New Town around 5:50 ishPM and placed our order shortly after, by 6:00 PM. The food began arriving at 6:17 PM, which seemed reasonable until we discovered they had messed up our Thai beef salad. Instead of promptly correcting the mistake, it took another 20 minutes for the issue to be fixed. What made the situation worse was that the staff were not very apologetic about their error or the delay. The lack of concern and urgency was frustrating, especially since it was their mistake. While the rest of the food was fine, the overall experience left a lot to be desired. Mistakes happen, but the indifferent attitude made it even more disappointing.
Very small food portions… I don't ever leave negative reviews but Thai Riffic used to be one of my favourite restaurants. I don't mind prices going up but lately the portion servings have been RIDICULOUSLY small - so small I was literally still hungry by the end of it. It was like the dish was from a children's menu lol For context the first pic was what we were served verses what we usually get in the past I raised this with the staff as we would usually receive a huge plate full of our pad thai/pad see ew but nothing was done - we were told this was the normal serving size as if we haven't been coming in for years… The food was decent but for the price and small portion it is no longer worth it - there are other Thai restaurants in the area that don't scam customers. Very disappointed. No wonder the restaurant was empty the whole day, should've been a sign.
Amazing place and fast service. We tried Thai basil stir fry and Tom yum fried rice. Both were delicious. Got large portions at budget friendly prices, great for students!!
we ordered via ubereats and was extremely disappointed. the thai beed salad had like one piece of green lettuce, and the beef was so mid, for $29.90 as well?? the pad see ew and rotti was decent. service was mid cos we asked for 2 sets of cutleries in the restaurant notes yet none was given, so we had to go out of our way to find cutleries too at another restaurant
Been eating thai for the last 20 years and seriously I can say this is the worse experience I’ve ever had. All the currys we ordered were basically horrible no taste in the meat and they were like soups. The noodle was hard rock my kids couldn’t eat. The staff couldn’t speak much English so the boss got involved. Very rude lady boss she wasn’t even there, the staff called her up on the phone and she was telling her staff to charge us for everything even tho we didn’t even touch the curry’s and the noddle. She’s a money hungry lady. I had a takeaway business dor 16 years and whenever I had unhappy customers with the food, I’d always refund them or make them a new order but this lady wasn’t even friendly on the phone. Wouldn’t recommend it for anything wanted to eat thai in that area.
Reasonably priced, authentic Thai dishes. I think for the area, this is great value for money. My beef noodles were really tasty. The beef was really tender and there was a great selection of vegetables mixed in with the noodles. I was happy to discover that the 'house beer' was a Chang and the lowest costing at $7. The food all came out in good time and our waitresses were attentive. My only issue was their policy on not allowing customers to split the bill. It seems a bit unreasonable in this modern and indeed expensive age!
Came here for lunch. Staff were friendly and hospitable. Menu was extensive and very reasonably priced for their lunch dishes. The Crisp Fried Mussel Pancake was delicious. The perfect flavour and texture. Also can't fault the other dishes we ordered. Great flavours and good serving sizes. Funky decor. Great spot to catch up with friends or to grab a quick bite.
