Te Waimate Mission House
"Aotearoa New Zealand’s second oldest building, Te Waimate Mission, preserves missionary, farming and architectural history, as well as stories of important early engagement between Māori and EuropeansWalk in the footsteps of Charles Darwin, who arrived on the doorstep of Te Waimate Mission in 1835 and was enchanted by the model farm and mission station. This great experiment emerges as a place of agricultural adaptation and development as missionaries attempted to import an entire food landscape from the other side of the globe.Come and discover fascinating stories of endeavour, perseverance, failure, and conflict.*Open on Saturdays during Winter while we carry out work behind the scenes. Our gardens are open daily to enjoy for free."

Great little house to explore. Lots of memories sitting there. Just thought $10pp was a bit steep. The chapel was fascinating too. And that was free !

This is a wonderful part of NZ history; very well presented with a very nice lady working there. I visit these historical places and love to be a Kiwi.

Most interesting historical site - wonder fully preserved. Worth going off the main road to spend time at the church, Cemetery, house and historic family land.
