Rating as 1 because there is no fair and logical pathway for academic students at this school. School rules are weak and a there is a lack of boundaries for student classroom behaviour. Between 2022-2024 the school generally allowed students to be unruly and disruptive in class.nAcademic challenge here is very poor, there is no extension work, entrance testing or streaming. Everyone is taught at the same speed and level. There is a High Performance Academy where you can get academic extension but you must apply and be selected for it- unlike other schools that have fairer systems with logical pathways to extension.nReporting is infrequent and some teachers don't appear to know what level their students are at. Everyone is taught at the same speed and level.nIn 2024 we simply wagged school when there was no academic work to do. We attended 3 days a week for the entire year still achieving Merit/Excellence. The school really needs to up its game, offer academic opportunities for ALL students and have better learning environments.nThere are some really awesome teachers at the school that work hard to foster a good learning environment and the strengths of this school are its cultural and individual diversity.
My child went to Tararua college in 2023 and experienced lots of children leaving classrooms and jumping out of windows. Lots of fights occurred, she came home once with a black eye because she had old shoes. Definitely consider sending your children here if you hate them :.
I went to Tararua College in Pahiatua from 1993- 1995. I didn't learn very much there. Because I was transferred to a girls boarding school in Nelson by principal Mr Smith and Deputy principal Mr West and Student Support CentreSSC staff member Mrs Rowden.
Moved to the town for work and moved straight back out because of this school. My child was disliked by 1 certain member of staff and because of this was not doing well, there should be no tolleration for bullying.
Went there for yr 9 and half of yr 10 terrible staff and students just stay home
