Very happy with this school so far, a vast amount of co-curricular and extra curricular activities to engage in. Good academic education for students that want to learn. Firm boundaries and behaviour expectations. Regular and weekly up to date information from the school, with regular reporting, testing and feedback. Different students need different things, but the structure and automatic exams/regular testing at this school allow students and families to know exactly where they are at and how they are achieving. Academic achievement is not for all, but its great these boys get the chance to be streamed and kept busy and occupied in class according to their capabilities.nI give it a 4 stars.. as I have yet to see any environmental/ waste awareness programme or resources at the school for recycling. Primary schools are teaching waste awareness and resource recovery and the secondary schools should be teaching it too.
HORRID school, sent my angel James to it and he was bullied for being gay. DO NOT recommend
Excellent school, one of the main reasons we choose to live and work in Palmerston North. Great leadership, great culture, great values. If you replicated this school across NZ you would go a long way to arresting our nations social decline.
My experience at Palmerton North Boys' High School has been far from satisfactory. The school suffers from several critical issues that significantly impact the students' education and overall well-being.nnFirstly, the academic performance is inconsistent. There seems to be a lack of support for students who are struggling, leading to a wide gap in achievement levels. This is compounded by an outdated curriculum that fails to engage or prepare students adequately for the future.nnBehavioral issues are rampant, with bullying and absenteeism being major problems that the administration appears unable or unwilling to address effectively. The school's disciplinary measures are either too lenient or too harsh, lacking consistency and fairness.nnResource constraints are glaringly obvious. The facilities are outdated, and essential educational materials are often lacking. This severely hampers the learning environment, making it difficult for both teachers and students to perform their best.nnStaffing is another major issue. High teacher turnover and a shortage of qualified staff mean that students frequently face disruptions in their education. Additionally, many teachers seem to lack the training necessary to handle the diverse needs of their students.nnStudent well-being is not prioritized. Mental health support is almost non-existent, and students with special needs do not receive the attention and care they deserve. The school environment does not feel safe or inclusive, which is detrimental to the students' overall development.nnParental engagement is minimal, with the school doing little to foster a strong community spirit or encourage parental involvement in their children's education. Communication between the school and parents is often poor, leaving many parents in the dark about their children's progress and issues.nnTechnological integration is severely lacking. The school has not kept up with modern educational technology, putting students at a disadvantage compared to their peers in other schools. Access to computers and the internet is limited, and there is little effort to incorporate technology into the curriculum.nnThe infrastructure of the school is in dire need of an upgrade. The buildings and facilities are old and poorly maintained, creating an uninspiring and sometimes unsafe environment for learning.nnOverall, Palmerton North Boys' High School has a long way to go in addressing these numerous issues. Until significant improvements are made, I would not recommend this school to anyone looking for a positive and effective educational experience for their child.
I'm honestly disappointed my darling son wasn't allowed in due to him being a proud gay guy
