This is the hidden gem in a narrow Lane. We found it by chance and tried it. It was a great discovery. We had Dan Dan ramen, pork belly ramen and veggie Dan Dan ramen with prawns. We all very happy with our Ramens. They also have nice cold Japanese tap Beer. Great job team ! Highly recommend of you like Japanese Ramen.
There is hearty broth, soft pork belly and filling noodles to be had in a dark alley. Seating is limited but the food comes out fast so seats become open rather quickly. Get the extra noodles if you're getting a thick broth because you won't be slurping that down without the extra noodles. I recommend the kyoshi broth tantan men with extra meat and noodles.
Definitely try the Ramen Royale if you want the entire works! Prawn was done well and added a great twist to the ramen along with the simmered egg. Cooked to perfection. Service was great tooRecommended dishesPork Belly Ramen
The two stars are for the bowl, broth and the ramen, that being said you can expect them to reach a fairly coherent taste and texture with packaged ichiran ramenexport version sold in Japanmart that is certainly overrated, but nothing more than that. And now for the toppings, especially the chashu pork belly added at extra costs of course, to simply say the meat is dry is an understatement, it is extremely lean and remotely ressembles any characteristics of a ‘belly’ cut, to name it in such way is a total disgrace, and for the texture it’s probably more chewy than an entire can of Extra bubblemint gums combined with reminiscence of beef jerky consistency. Not just overcooked but also over-seasoned: no layers but pure saltiness and very industrious soy sauce flavour, tastes like the meat has been soaked in the marinade since the initial case of SARS-COVID-19 was discovered in NZ. Veges are fresh as you would expect from all restaurants here, but whats the point of the saffron threads? The bamboo shoots is also packaged-food ok standard but the scallion looks sad, also the egg is fine. I cleared my plate because I waste no food, opinions unchanged.
A Queenstown must do! As a Queenstown local of 12 years Tanoshi Ramen Ramen has fast become one of the best spots in town. great authentic food and drink, and standout service from Jack who took our order 10/10
We have tried a lot of ramen places from many parts of Japan to Australia and for us, we think that ramen here lacks of flavour and texture, something quite missing. However the presentation is good and looks good to the eyes. Not worth the wait, in our opinion. We wouldn’t be back next time we visit Queenstown, sorry :
This review is solely about the food and its value for money, excluding the drinks, service, environment, and other factors. Unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. We ordered two different types of ramen: the minced pork and the royal ramen. In terms of taste, soup base, and side dishes, they were only average compared to other ramen places in New Zealand, and not worth the $33 price tag. Additionally, the fried shrimp had a darker color and the egg white was not fully transparent; some parts were still runny. Overall, I would rate this restaurant no higher than 3 out of 5 for its food.
Nice warm broth and ramen in cold weather. Good decent taste, but definitely overrated. Takes a while to get the table, order is based on ticking off a paper so in a group of more than 2-3 things get mixed up often saw it happening to us and the table next door. Name denotes it’s run by a Japanese chef, but looks like the entire crew of chef and wait staff is Filipino. 60-70% of the the things on the menu including ramen basics like pork belly and prawn had ran out by the the time we ordered at 7.15pm on a Tuesday not a busy time. Overall still a good place to go if you are craving for a ramen, not sure if it gets any better than this in queens town but very average compared to what we see back in Singapore, KL or Tokyo!
The restaurant was packed with people when we arrived. Probably due to staff shortage, the staff served us almost a little unwillingly. Anyway, their ramen was quite nice and delicately presented. I had a vegan tantan ramen still a bit too spicy for my liking, but it's just my own problem. We also ordered a Chef's recommended noodles, so not sure which soup it was. But overall, if you're looking for ramen here in QT, this resto won't disappoint!
OMG! Best ramen in Queenstown ever! You can really taste the broth… it’s not a instant noodles! And with a plus that we can choose your broth, noodles and all the toppings!!! Definitely the best place to try in Queenstown!!!
