Cool minimalist, open decor. Super friendly and helpful staff. Great pizzas and starters. Top-notch limoncello. Overall good vibes and excellent eating.
Don’t let the calm exterior lull you into a false sense of security. Upon entering Supermaxi you’re greeted by a hive of activity with corks popping, people laughing and good times being had by all. I had a place at the bar...would thoroughly recommend as it lets you survey the action. Cocktails are on point...try Giovanni’s dirty martini with special gin. It was a cracker as is the service. The staff are exceptional and breeze through service in an engaging and effortless way. I wanted everything on the menu, but the veal caught my eye and I’m a traditionalist with its preparation. I wasn’t disappointed. I can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough. It was a wonderful first evening back in Melbourne after many years and didn’t disappoint.
If you aren’t popping in here on a Tuesday night for the great service and even better food, you should be. In fact don’t. I want this place all to ourselves. Bellissimo!
The food was really good, not fantastic. The place is really loud and crowded but Oh my are the staff friendly. They are friendly but some do act a a little cold. I have never seen waitstaff that pay such close attention to detail and really give each individual customer attention, they really go the extra mile. Service is fast which surprised me because it was so busy, for such a short wait the food really good. Usually pizza is soggy in the middle but these are cooked all the way through.
Food here is great and the staff are equally good. A local gem.
Today’s special and dessert were really on point! Simple but yummy!
We have been regulars at Supermaxi since 2013. We LOVE coming here. Apart from the consistently excellent service, Giovanni and his team have created a warm, inviting and quintessentially Italian place to dine. The wines are well considered and if you let the staff help you choose, you won't be disappointed. The pizzas are the best you will ever eat I have travelled to Italy a LOT, so I don't make his claim lightly. Such a great place for a night out.
It really depends on the day you come to this restaurant. The mood of the staff will set the night so best to call ahead and see how their day was? It started with the owner being arrogant towards one of my colleague that resulted in her being in tears regarding HIS mistake of booking the wrong number of people for the booking. When nicely questioned, he proceeded with utter arrogance that ‘He is always correct, not the customer’…right! Maybe needs a quick understanding of customer service 101? Or a clear understanding that the CUSTOMER has CHOSEN to come to YOUR establishment over OTHERS, so maybe a bit of RESPECT is not too much to ask for? The food is ‘good’ but there are better Italian restaurants out there. But the fact we were literally pushed out of the restaurant with how fast they were pushing us to order was uncomfortable at the most! Then half way through eating my dessert and god forbid having a conversation with my colleagues, my dessert was swiftly taken away by the waitress with no ‘are you finished with this’? So yeah…we got the hint so just left as the only time they were ‘nice’ was when it was time to pay! Laughable! Anyway, if you want a pizza with a side of entitlement and attitude then go for it! Food was not terrible but the people running the show…well, let’s say that’s the ‘entertainment’?
We felt unwelcome when we entered as we were dressed semi casual jeans and jacket. The asian guy at the bar said we shouldn’t be wearing hats indoors and was aggressive about it, asking us why we thought it was acceptable. I run a restaurant and it has never been an issue for any of my customers to wear hats inside or dress in a certain way.
I was skeptical that the pizza could be better than Primo but it might be, by a whisker. Omg it's great: light thin crust, succulent well seasoned topping, good sauce and no floppy sloppy centre. We had entrees of buttery deep fried cauliflower and the calamari. Perfect. I don't get why people say its expensive. Pizza are the standard price or even a bit cheaper. Drinks like Campari are surprisingly cheap. I love the food. I love the place.
