Googled up "best steak in Rocky" and this place came up first on multiple charts. Was it worth it? Depending on what you expect. The place is run down and in urgent need of reno. You get a quality piece of raw steak and cook it to your liking. The kid loved the fun. Salad was a bit weathered - looks like it was sitting there for a while. Same for chips. We missed out on that wonderful guy who gives you an enthusiastic story about meat. Can't say we weren't taken care of though. 2 large steaks, extra chips, soft drink and a schooner cost $120. I would expect a little bit more in every department for that. Overall I give 3, she gives 4, the kid gives 5.
The service was excellent. The steak was good, though I don't know if I got what I ordered. It was tasty though. It comes out raw on a volcanic stone and you cook each bite to your liking yourself. The chips were good but the salad was not so great. The veggies were just awful. Dried up and undercooked. And then we were overcharged. The poor lady was so busy - she seemed to be the only one there and was doing the bottle shop, reception and serving the meals and behind the bar - we didn't have the heart to say anything.
This place is an unexpected joy. The food is beyond amazing, priced well, service is above and beyond. Cooking the garlic chicken as I eat means it's hot, hot and beautiful! Perfectly seasoned with crispy skin included! Perfectly cooked , fresh hand cut chips. I'm delighted and happily full!
Not only you’ll have the best steak served on a volcanic plate which keeps your steak at a hot temperature, you’ll also get to meet Will the owner who passionately explains to you what you’re having and introduces you to different flavors that come out from the same cut. Even if you could find the same steak quality somewhere else, you would never find someone like Will who would take you on a great steak voyage!
One of the best steaks I’ve eaten. Staff and service was wonderful. Tried the cube roll as per recommended and it did not disappoint.
Heard of it through word-of-mouth, kinda overrated. Food's a little overpriced. Can try crocodile and kangaroo here. Would suggest having another plate to set aside your steak before it gets overcooked.
Excellent meal. Really excellent. Will, the licensee, is extremely knowledgeable and will take you through all the different options and details of your menu choice, and his suggestions are first rate. At first I was a little concerned by the unassuming decor and location, but this was honestly one of the best meals I've had in Rocky. Flavourful, tender, generous portions that reward the diner using the quality of the meat and the unique preparation rather than masking with overpowering sauces. All provided at a very reasonable price. Good wine selection too. 10/10 recommend, will absolutely come back next time I'm in Rocky. Parking: Off street parking available around the back
BEST STEAK EXPERIENCE EVER!!! If you are ever in or close to Rockhampton stop in and try a steak. Be patient as the owner is taking food and drink orders, serving the food and the bottle shop attached but it is well worth it. The service was amazing - the owner saw me holding my baby when he bought our meals out and literally cut my steak for me so that I could eat. Five stars doesn’t do it justice!!
Very interesting place. First, it was difficult to find the entrance, because you need to enter from the back through the alcohol shop. Second, it looks a bit like American place, but the food was very good! We have taken a steak and a barramundi and both dishes were served on the hot stones and the lady was super nice.
The steak is decent, crocdile meat is like pork texture without any port smell. Wonderful. Had this restaurant every time i visit Beef Week. "thanks for not forgeting about us" said the manager, who is great person at his 80s .
