Great atmosphere, has a lot of fun activities for families to do with young kids. You can read a lot about the history of South Australia here as well there are many helpful story boards around. Also a great place to read or study. There's a cute library cafe on the ground floor. Would love to come back and do a full tour next time
Excellent place to study in cozy couches. Good internet. And above all, a good cafe on the ground floor. Overall, good place to spend some time silently reading. The only thing that I suggest is that some security guards can be little nicer.
An attractive design located in ideal location A historical space well mixed with modern part. The exhibition corridor combined with self study tables make me feel like in Harry Potters seri who never in Europe style before. Good cultural and attractive environment inside.
‘Woww’ is my first reaction when coming in, the library and everything is just perfect, it is a good place to learn history, politics, and culture of Adelaide and Australia. It also has a computers for you outside in the library, I was lucky that I heard the kid sang the Christmas songs here as well. Very highly recommend to come here!!!
It was honestly great working there. It had free wifi, which worked great with my laptop though was a bit weird on my phone. It was pretty quiet but people did come in time to time just to walk around. I will definitely go again.
What a beautiful building! On your next visit to Adelaide when you are wandering down North Terrace, do yourself a favour and drop into the State Library. There are multiple sections to the Library, exhibitions and more. My daughter loved it, we stopped for a break and read some Christmas stories, and enjoyed the Christmas tree in the Mortlock wing. I'll drop in again next time we are in town.
State library of South Australia has 3 buildings located in the Northern Terrace precinct. The first building Mechanics Institute is the oldest one of them. The middle one is the Spence Wing and is the modern one and then there is the historic building “Mortlock wing”which has Harry Potter vibes to it with all the old resources and the books. Mortlock wing also has a lot of information about South Australia which is definitely worth visiting. This library has constantly been voted as one of the most beautiful libraries in the world.
Beautiful and nice library. There’re plenty of study areas and great selection of books. It’s cosy and quiet to sit and read at this place. Absolutely love it.
I have been enjoying coming to this library since being accepted into my master’s program. However, one of the security guards was incredibly rude to me. He said I “needed to open my eyes bigger” because there is an “big, obvious” sign about having no coffee. There is no need to be condescending when making a point.
Located on North Terrace, it's a quiet study/research space, and a place to learn about South Australia's history and culture. Family history is one of the library's highlights. Library references are available in many formats. You can also access it at home through available online resources. And if you have young children, this is also a great place to get into some amazing activities. Highly recommended.
