Great place to spend an hour or two with kids. We just dropped in as we were in the city. Like with most libraries, great selection of children's books for all ages. We can borrow them too from our local council library if you really want to. It's also a peaceful place to do some research on just walk through an art gallery.
Beautiful Library. Amazing galleries. They are showing right now a fascinating gallery called: Kill or Cure full of comprehensive displays of old medicinal practices. Another beautiful gallery is one called Imagine that is catered for kids displaying books for kids, seated areas, drawings, book narrations. We walked around and spent about two hours walking around town. highly recommended.
While the collection on display is impressive most of it is off limits to visitors. This library is extremely beautiful and worth a trip to see the reading room with all the books arranged on the walls. There's a more modern library in the back where you can access books like you would normally, but still rather am disappointed that the multi level library is off-limits it's more of an archive with visible shelves. Still, has a good old-book smell when you walk in. The other wings also have a rotating display of art or science center type displays, which had some pretty interesting history of medicine when we went. Overall recommended.
A beautiful historical building well worth the visit to! The library is immaculately clean and well looked after. I would recommend this a stop for everyone, as there is something for everyone!
Large, impressive library not very far from Royal Botanical Gardens and CBD. The upper level contains art exhibits including a gallery of works depicting early settlement in the harbour city.
Today, I went to the State Library of NSW, which left me in awe. It offers a serene atmosphere ideal for studying and reading. Also, for those with children, there is a designated room where they can read books and play. The historical architecture of the entire building is stunning, and it sits right across the Botanical Garden, adding to the list of beautiful places to visit in Sydney. I strongly suggest paying a visit there!
I like usiing this library as it offers a great selection of books, magazines and other resources. It is easy to request a book for use in the library and it is delivered within 45 minutes usually. However, the rules in the library are strict, that includes: 1. Proof of double vaccinations 2. No food or drink is allowed in the reading room 3. No talking on the phones 4. A hand bag should be within certain sizes 5. No own books are allowed to be brought in. There is a coffee shop and a book- miscellaneous shop in the library foyer.
If you are going to be in Sydney and you have some free time, you should make it a point to stop by the State Library of New South Wales. It is a beautiful building with a rich history. It is stunning on the inside as well as the outside. The library portion in and of itself is a wonderful photographic subject that transports visitors to another era. As long as you maintain a low volume, you are free to roam around the interior and take photographs. A great learning place!!
I love the library, and I also love the art gallery on 1st floor. I was so mesmerised by those arts. Would become one of my city visits.
Such a cool library not just a good palace to read and study, there some exhibitions can visit. The collection of paintings are permanent.
