Was a busy Saturday night when we came here… the lobster with egg noodles was very nice, the lobster may have been a little old as the meat was a little tough and chewy. The pepper steak had excellent flavour and seasoning, but the steak itself had a lot of bones then what I’d expect. But still a great meal and would recommend. Parking around the area is a bit of a pain however, found street parking 2 blocks away.
Star House is one of our favourite Chinese restaurants in Adelaide’s China Town. Its always busy, doesn’t seem to matter whether it’s a Tuesday night at 9pm or a weekend, but there’s plenty of space. They’re also open till late. Staff are polite and provide prompt, attentive service. Downside is they’re almost too polite - for example last time we were there there was a child watching a show on what seemed like full volume and we could hear every word even half the restaurant away and staff did not request for this to be turned down a little. Even though the menu is huge, they seem to execute each dish well. Overall the restaurant is a fairly pricey, but the food has never been bad. You can also choose your seafood live.
Beautiful Chinese restaurant in the CBD in Adelaide. Friendly services, amazing produce, fresh seafood and very kind services. We had a really good time. The only thing is a bit expansive; but completely understanding with the soaring on price in this little high inflation time at the moment.
I went to Star House a few times years ago. This time I went there with 2 friends for yum cha again. I love the steamed pork rib and the chicken feet, the rice pastry with Chinese donut was also very yummy. The sauces came in with the dishes were nice too. The staff were friendly and very helpful, nice and fast service. Big dining area which can fit lots of people. We ordered 10 dishes which was more than enough for us, and a glass of pineapple juice. We didn't have much left overs and almost finished everything. It costed us more than $100. So I would say the price is a bit high. But food was really yummy. Recommend this Chinese restaurant for yum cha.
Service was not too bad, but it was just fine. Food was only okay too. We had pork belly stew, Cantonese roast duck, dim sim and steamed rice. The rice was below average from an Asian perspective. Too dry and rough. The pork belly dish was not good, too fatty for me although I normally enjoy having pork belly a lot. That dish had even more taro than pork belly. Dim sim was fine, but nothing special. The roast duck was the best in this meal - the meat was soft and the skin was crispy. However, it was just standard and was incomparable to the Cantonese roast duck we had had in many other Chinese/Cantonese restaurants.
Spotted in the heart of Adelaide city and very close to the China town. The service was quick and the staff were fairly professional. Some of the items were delicious and nicely done but for some of the items like the duck I have had much better in other places. The duck was not as flavoursome and tasty as it should be with all the aromatic Chinese spices also it was over cooked for sure. Spring rolls were nice and fresh and the dipping sauces were nice as well.
It has become average somehow… 4 of the 5 dishes we ordered were very much average. Fairly disappointed. We hope the food return to what it used to be. If/when it happens, we will be sure to update this review.
Me and a close friend of mine ordered a huge spread during lunch time Yum Cha and every dish was delicious and varied. The highlights were easily the salt and pepper squid, beef pastry, pork buns and shallot cakes. Not the first time I've been, and definitely won't be the last. However, don't expect fantastic service.
In August 2022: Went to the Star House Tuesday night again. Very disappointed with the Salt & Pepper Soft Shell Crab large size for dinner this time! Not too much soft shell crabs at all, but lots of flour. As it was too much flour, some not even fried properly. And the dish wasn’t hot, seemed like it had been sitting there for a while. Not sure what’s going on, a new chef? Very disappointed!! In July 2022: Most of dishes were delicious, particularly like Salt & Pepper Soft Shell Crab, Golden Deep Fried Stuff Eggplant & Fresh Baked Durian Pastry. But Stir-fried Rice Noodle with Beef had a bit of burning taste and Golden Deep Fried Squid was a bit of over cooked.
No complaints. Food was yummy. Staff are hard workers. Their boss should commend them and appreciate them. Fair price$. Will go back to try out more on the menuThank you.
