Today St Mary’s Cathedral is one of Australia’s most beautiful and significant buildings but it did not happen overnight. The Cathedral evolved through a long and patient timeline following a fire which destroyed the first St Mary’s Cathedral in 1865. It took close to 100 years to finally complete St Marys with the first stage constructed between 1866 and 1900 and stage two between 1912 and 1928 As you approach the cathedral, you can't help but be impressed by its size and grandeur. Awesome place. No words to express the feelings. If you are visiting Sydney, this place is a must watch spot. It is peaceful and vibrant. There are pictures of Jesus's story on the walls and many worship places within the cathedral. It's really breathtaking. Even the walk towards the Cathedral, you can see a great fountain with characters of biblical references. We visited during the Christmas New Year period, and therefore, we also got to see the Christmas decorations and crib.

St Mary’s Cathedral is a historic church located in the heart of the Sydney with a masterpiece architecture. It has the greatest length of any church in Australia although it is neither the tallest nor largest overall. The atmosphere is great and people are so welcoming. Easy access via public transport. Highly recommended.
I am an American tourist visiting Sydney for a few days. I first visited the Australian Museum, which is about 100 yards away from the St Mary's Cathedral. Having some time before my next engagement, I walked from the Australian Museum to the St Mary's Cathedral, which was made peaceful by a water feature and colorful flowers. People were sitting on the steps at mid-afternoon enjoying the view watching visitors enter and exit the cathedral. Admission to the Cathedral is free and is a good stop on a walking tour including Hyde Park, The Australian Museum, St Mary's Cathedral and the Domain/Art Gallery of NSW. Inside, there are many pews from which to choose if you want to pray and gorgeous stained windows. You can light a candle on your way out and admire the architecture.
