As full-time working parents with three kids, we relied heavily on school for our children's education. St Andrews Christian College has many positive aspects, including its strong academic performance and supportive community. St Andrews consistently ranks in the top 20 schools in NAPLAN, which is a testament to its high educational standards.nnWe recently moved our kids from St Andrews to a local public school, which also ranks in the top 50, thinking the transition would be straightforward. However, we were shocked to find that the educational process at the new school does not compare to what we experienced at St Andrews.nnFor example, parents do not have visibility on what kids are learning in class, and no homework or books are given for kids to do every night. At St Andrews, at least homework or mental math books are given to kids from Monday to Thursday. Additionally, St Andrews uses Schoolbox the Hub, which allows parents to see what their children are learning in class and provides a collaborative environment between students, educators, and parents. We were also shocked that the new school does not provide teachers' email addresses to parents.nnSt Andrews offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, especially considering it is a small school with only two classes per year level. In music alone, there are two choirs, two bands training and intermediate, and two string bands, and this is just in the primary school.nnLastly, we want to say thanks to Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Steele, Miss Nheu, and Mr. Shehan—they are the best teachers!
The school team are attempting that students are well-behaved at all times. School is educational. The office team are very helpful.I can remember how much they were helpful to my daughter and my son when they started at this school .nMy daughter accessed to medicine In Monash just after 2 years of studying in school.nAlso ,my son in grade 4is so happy to going ahead with his studies and his friends and his teachers.
So this is a review that I didn’t expect I’d ever be writing. It’s uncomfortable… but maybe it’ll be cathartic.nnI’ll preface this by disclosing that alongside another family member, I personally attended this school for ten years.nn1. Incredibly small school. Some people think it’s a good thing, but I’d honestly argue the reverse - if you don’t fit in with a tiny number of students, good luck—you’ll need it.nn2. Despite the school being majority Asian, there's an incredibly concerning culture of favouring white students - especially when they consider the ‘validity’ of their experience and when assigning student leadership roles. This ‘culture’ has trickled down from parents and teachers to the students. It’s such a wild thing to put into words, but I don’t know how else to describe the uncomfortable ‘cliques’ that year levels were sectioned into…nn3. If your child ever has an issue with another student, pretty much guaranteed that they’ll sweep everything under the rug.nnThe issue is only compounded by the small school size, and if said abusive student is either a teacher’s favourite I.e. decent-looking white student and/or has older siblings also attending.nnSo verbal abuse and malicious social exclusion are often ignored. I know of alumni and former students who, to this day, suffer from various forms of mental trauma. Myself being one of them, but I dare say that I was… fairly? lucky, as I was fortunate enough to change schools before I had to graduate in that horrific environment.nnSeriously, if a child confesses to a teacher that another student has been consistently sending death threats and telling them to engage in self-harm, the appropriate response is NOT to defend the abusive student and dismiss the concern entirely without even looking into it! The fact that this wasn’t a one-off and happened to multiple people I know personally - myself included - boggles the mind!nnIn essence: This school isn’t worth the private school fees - not when they blatantly, openly favour some students for concerning reasons, and not when their inaction CONTINUES TODAY.nnGiven the professional counselling some of us have had to receive, it’s also not worth the future therapy bills.nnHas writing this review been cathartic? I’m ultimately not sure.nnEDIT 1: if someone ever apologises to you beginning with “I’m sorry you feel that way”, instead of “I’m sorry this has happened to you”, or “I’m sorry we’ve made you feel this way”, it’s not an apology.nnI became an atheist because of STACC - they taught me that there is no hate like Christian love.nnYes, I was there for Mr Melody’s first day at the school. He was still there when I left. Here's what I'll say: The administration knew. NOBODY was surprised that it was him, only disappointed it took so long. It was too late for his victims - one of which I knew.nnMy genuine recommendation:n- Address the systemic racismn- Stop brushing aside s3xu@l @ssau1t reports from staff and students! Mellody wasn't even your first one, ffs - DO BETTER!n- actually support/believe neurodivergent/disabled children.n- Move away from teaching vitriol. I remember how much the former principle loved to spread hate...nnWansborough politically campaigned against LGBTQIA+ human rights, ignored allegations of child endangerment and dismissed administrative racism, and pushed her views heavily on children.nnNut-job Christians are the only people I've had the displeasure of meeting who talk about gay bedroom 'stuff' more than actual gay people.nnI'm not even a spiteful low-performer alumnus, don't even start! At risk of revealing too much ID info, I was a top performer that eventually studied my way out by passing admissions into a different select entry school.nnEDIT 2: found out that a family member still attends this school, and is still being horrifically bullied years-long issue by one particular racist entitled white student. Parents are trying to find other schools, and in the meantime, STACC has deliberately ignored many reports from MULTIPLE STUDENTS about this one girl and all her siblings.
I remember attending the open night here, where both the teachers and students were incredibly welcoming.
Teachers showers no respect for students and have previously spanked me with a ruler
