Large ale house with wood styled decor. Good vibes and really busy so make sure you book. We both ordered the lamb shank, you can get medium or large which means one or two pieces of lamb. One piece was big enough for me and two pieces was a bit much unless maybe you’re starving. Vegetables were great, loved the mash and Kumara potatoes. I did like the lamb but there were a lot of fatty bits that I’ve not experienced anywhere else in NZ. I had a glass of the angus the bull cab sav which went really well.
We went for Dinner last night and had a booking. It took some time for a waitress to attend to us, She seated us, gave us a menu and some water then we had to wait for some time, the table next to us got seated after us and there order taken. We were still waiting for the waitress to come and take the order. In the end we had to go to the bar and asked to be served. Feel they need to up there game for customer service. Food was average.

The service was good. I’ve had a vegetarian burger but in the menu it doesn’t say it comes with beetroot relish and pickle. It says it comes with hummus but mine didn’t come with it. I’ve asked to add tomatoes but kitchen didn’t have any. Overall we had an ok experience here.
Have been here many times and always left feeling pleased with our meals, unfortunately, this time there was a lot left to be desired. I was excited to find out my husband had booked us in for my birthday dinner but was soon disappointed when we realized we were having to sit on a couch and eat our dinner off a coffee table in the "lounge" section. Bending down to eat our dinner was very uncomfortable and we ended up eating our meals off our lap. Our meals this time were also nothing to rave about - floury chips and fish, pizza destroyed with overloaded cheese. Definitely not the normal Speights we've come to know and love over the years.
We ordered cod and I was very excited. Unfortunately the taste was like minced fish so guess it was frozen. Very oily. Not a great meal at all.Food: 1/5
Very nice standard gastropub fare with the requisite price tag. It's a clean, pleasant place to sample a nice variety of beer and kill a few hours.
Complained about burnt cheesecake and was not as advertised. Gave us a small break on the cost but were overall most ungracious. They have left us as most unhappy customers
Service was good, food was terrible. Ordered pizza that was not hot with store bought chicken, pre made crust and unidentifiable cheese. Wine was mediocre. Would not recommend.
Generally our meals were excellent. The worst thing was the gravy on the Bangers and Mash. It tasted like axle grease and drowned the entire dish. Parking: There is plenty of spaces. Wheelchair accessibility: Once inside it was great. The entrance doors are heavy and would be difficult without assistance.
