South Australian Maritime Museum

About

The SA Maritime Museum preserves the oldest nautical collection in Australia, a collection that was begun in 1872. The Museum presents its exibition gallery, lighthouse and boats in the heart of Port Adelaide, South Australia's first heritage precinct.

Story

Our exhibitions cross themes from immigration and the age of sail to naval history and exploration. We look at seafarers, lighthouse keepers, shipwrecks, wharfies, windjammers, steerage, ketches and tugs. We even include the Port River dolphins.

While the Museum has a long history we find new ways to interpret the past. We present programs that are entertaining and interactive as well as educational.

Over two million people have visited the Maritime Museum’s Bond Stores gallery since it opened in 1986.

The museum was a lot of fun and very informative. I will definitely be back.
Great place to visit. You can get a 25% discount after visiting Aviation or Railway museums. Captivating cat bingo a task to spot all the little cats on the ships, my son was super excited to find them all.
Great place to learn the history of early settlers. Great for families as well
It's not going to fill in hours but it's well worth a visit. I found it pretty interesting. Great little part of the world Port Adelaide. So make the trip and stop past the museum.
If history and big ships are your thing, you will be very interested here. My toddler and I enjoyed the cat scavenger hunt and the Play School exhibition.
A good place to visit to see the old maritime life in Australia right after the boat ride to see the dolphins and port Adelaide. Relive the past.they do great excursions for year 4s and 5s.
Nicely displayed and I like the search engine for the past ship record. Also when I was there they had cat hunt activity for kids.
Very very interesting. You can spend at least 3 hours, reading all the history. Everything is well conserved and full of informatons.
Loved it, kids had a blast, plenty of history to see and read.
Was interesting place and easy to navigate. Staff were friendly and helpful.
