The volunteer are friendly and helpful. The museum is better than I expected. To be honestly, I’m not a big fan of aviation but after visiting this amazing place, I love it. While I was reading the introduction of each plane, I felt like I flew back to the old time. To sum up, it is worth visiting!!
I brought my plane obsessed 2yr old son with me and we were there an hour. To be thorough, you would probably want to allow up to 2-3hrs. 3hrs for the enthusiast Presented very well, staff are lovely and there are small plane ride-ons for kids 4 and under which my son adored getting about on.
If you're an aviation nut like me you'll love this place. Good collection of aircraft over two hangars. Enough to keep you busy for a few hours and a well stocked gift shop including models and books.
What an amazing place! Much more inside than expected and great demonstrations and exhibits! The kids 5 and 2 yrs old were mesmerised by the interactive displays. The staff are also friendly and ready for a chat. The spitfire and the fighter jets were a favourite, with my daughter also loving the helicopters and the military cargo planes. We WILL be back again.
Visited in July 2022. Loved the new addition the F18 Hornet alongside the F-111. Of course loved the Spitfire. Volunteers are nice . The Aircraft's are in 2 hangers. And also some engines and other aviation stuff and information on the first floor. Some of the aircraft's are open to people to climb inside. Cockpits are closed and only will be opened with guided tours. This museum is next to the Railway museum in Port Adelaide. Loved the place and the aircrafts.
What a great place to visit. It was so clean and well laid out. Entry was reasonably priced that a family can afford to go there for a nice little day trip and the staff were friendly. You are able to climb into some of the aircraft and see how they are set up on the inside and as a bonus you can organise a tour of the cockpit of some of them if you're interested. Their museum had some very interesting local history on world wars, aircraft and flight histories and a section dedicated to women in aviation. There was even a small section on the rockets of Woomera. If you visit here, make sure you leave a whole day and take a brochure from the counter giving you a discount to the other local museums such as the railway and maritime museums. With a local brewery just down the street it was a really great way to end the afternoon.
Pretty neat museum!! Should be a prefect visit place for military geek. Unluckily I am not ; Two hangers of aircrafts which offers in-cabin tour. With easy-to-understand, Australian aviation history notes on site. The best part is the tour notes has Chinese citation. The entry is a bit pricey but you can purchase greatcheap second hand aircraft book inside.
Yes, this place is worth a visit. I love the seeing a range of aircrafts on display with remarkable history. I also get to hear and feel being inside those aircrafts. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. It is located a few blocks away from other museums.
Nice collection of aircraft. I liked how you got to go inside lots of the planes! It was a really hot day, and the main warehouse has cooling - which was a bonus : We went here after the railway museum as it is next door and we got a discount for going to this museum after the railway museum.
Fantastic aviation museum, with a good focus on SA aviation aspects. Lots of info about Marlinga & Woomera, plus info about testing. Lots of aircraft to enter and inspect, plus options to sit in cockpits. Good sections about specific SA aviators. Comprehensive selection of 2nd hand aviation books that are no longer in print. Highly recommend a visit if you have any interest in aviation.
