Only the location remains of the original charm of this place. If one insists on having ushered seating, then not having anyone there to guide you, please do not then chastise your potential customers for finding their own table. A very ordinary and extremely expensive coffee followed, but only after first being told what I couldn’t have. This refurbishment cannot be considered a success though I have no doubt it will make more money. A disappointing experience.
The newly opened Cafe has had a face lift but has lost its casual charm. The cold drinks, snacks and ice creams have passed to alcohol and coffee. Most of the seating is now exclusive to the dining area. You wont find any of the local fauna waddling through the seating area. Standard bottle of cider is $13. Will give it a miss and won't be for my clients who I take around the gardens
This place used to be a great spot but after today i won't return, I ordered a large and small coffee and ended up waiting 25 minutes. When it finally came it was 2 small coffees and i was told they don't sell large coffees. If they said this at the start i would not have ordered. But to cap it off it's the worst coffee ever and not like they used to sell before they tarted the place up. So glad i never ordered food if the coffee was anything to go by. Will not return. Shame as the place used to be good.
The food, service and atmosphere were lovely here. I had the chicken mayo sandwich which is made of lovely quality ingredients. I’m a little bit taken a-back by the cost of it but seeing as you wouldn’t eat here daily and you are coming for the experience of the gardens, eating by the lake I think it can be overlooked. $18.19 Vegetarian options: I saw a vegetarian sandwich in the front window. Wheelchair accessibility: Everywhere in the gardens along the main paths is wheelchair accessible as is this kiosk.
Went to kiosk on Monday and waited to be seated as had to wait for waitress as per their sign. Promptly got a table for 2. The kiosk was not very busy. We were advised it was table service. So 20 minutes later we walked out as no one came to serve us. Not very good in customer service.
So disappointed that what used to be a friendly kiosk where the garden's diverse range of visitors could stop by for a quick and affordable meal - is now sit-down restaurant with tiny portions that most will be unable to afford. The gardens are supposed to be a place for everyone - this new cafe is the opposite.Food: 2/5
Food was ok but very limited choices. Waiter Chris, was excellent with exceptional service. Atmosphere was shocking, so noisy we could not have a conversation.Food: 3/5
Small kiosk that sells things like pies, drinks, sandwiches and ice creams. The drinks include soft drinks, juice, coffee, water and a couple other things. There are a fair few seating options including ones in the open, ones under umbrella and ones under a roof. In summer, the tree that overhangs the seating area provides some shade. The only issue I have is the ice creams are pretty pricy at $6.
Perhaps the best way to have your lunch in the gardens would be to bring your own lunch and find your favourite spot to enjoy beautiful gardens with your lunch. However, if it's not the case, then Simpson Kiosk may be the second best option. I've been here quite few times. I wouldn't say their food is exceptional or fantastic, but they've never let me down. They know what they'are doing and you'll probably get the food you would expect from any other quality cafes in the city. On top of that, you can enjoy ducks are paddling, turtles are swimming in the water or other birds are chirping around you. There is another cafe next to the nursery, but I prefer this one for the location, surroundings and food itself. The only downside to me was the restroom, but the good news is that the entire toilets in the Botanic Gardens are now in redevelopement! What a good news!
As part of the Botanical Gardens, it is a wonderful place to meet up with friends and family. Or even be there on your own. The food is very good. They sell tea in pots. My friends enjoyed being there for my birthday on a very hot day. There was plenty of shade and a cool breeze coming off the pond. Parking: I parked just out of Adelaide and caught the tram in. The Botanical Gardens have parking for 4 hours Monday to Saturday, pay at the meter on Hackney Rd.
