The museum has a whole heap of shells from across the world, donated by collectors such as Frank Jones. There is a small aquarium that needs more fish, and the train set needs more trains as it only has 2 trains running don't know if the others are working. Also has a COVID Safe plan that is well enforced. Ended up buying a mug for $7.50 for my younger brother's birthday present sounds dear, but supports locals and is unique.
An impressive collection of shells and fossils. A cool train set in one of the back rooms too, but this museum was not necessarily our thing. Popped in for about 20 minutes, and the staff were quite friendly.
Definitely worth a visit, the back museum part has so many weird and wonderful sea things to look at. Fish tanks could use some more decor though. Great to pick up some souvenirs to take home if you are holidaying in Lakes. Shop has every shell you could imagine from all around the world.
Impressive collection of shells from all over the world. My kid collects all sorts of shells from each of our beach visits and I thought she would be super keen to see a collection of sea shells.. I was not very correct, however, my wife and I enjoyed looking at various shells and specimen in jars.. reminded me of my biology lab during school years We found shopping for souvenirs a bit more interesting.. Do look for the pre packed basket with a huge assortment of shells! It works out for good VFM as against buying individual shells. They accept eftpos. $8 adults and half price for kids. The prices are correct as of Date of this review.
The Sea Shell Museum is an absolute must for anyone planning on visiting Lakes Entrance. The museum is full of shells, live fish and a range of oceanic curios. Its not a huge space, but it's packed with artefacts- so you can genuinely spend as little or as much time as you like browsing. Part of the museum's charm is its longevity, its been around since the '60s. We took our kids 6, 4 and almost 2 and all of them loved it. The fossils and model train set were a particular hit. Cannot recommend highly enough.
It is a museum of sea shells and marine display, coupled with a gift shop where you can buy shells and related stuff. There is also a display of a miniature railway system within the museum. The variety of shells you get to see here is amazingVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Out of all the years it is a must see whilst visiting lakes entrance, when I was a young girl and now my children. So many shells and creatures from beneath, can't leave without buying some shells, great gift shop
Definitely worth a visit for the kids. My child loved it, such a beautiful collection of various shells. I loved it too.
The front is a seashell shop but after paying a small fee you gain entry into the museum. A must see with two headed sharks, many vibrantly coloured shells in all shapes and sizes and a dark room where you can see glowing fish. There is even a model railway. Definitely worth the $8 entry fee.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
