Story

Scarecrow is the guardian of the crop and the link between the city and farm.

We are an urban farmers market in the heart of Auckland city. We are passionate about good food and believe in the following:

Using seasonal produce
Sourcing artisanal products
Supporting local business
Reducing our waste
Knowing where our food comes from

We offer seasonal food from our kitchen with a la carte all day dining and a small selection of cabinet food that changes on a daily basis to dine-in or takeaway.

We are a florist who source seasonal blooms to create contemporary and eclectic arrangements for everyone.

We are a grocer highlighting the best of New Zealand made artisan goods and stock organic, spray free and locally grown produce whenever possible. This is produce our chefs use in our kitchen.

Good strudel and fresh salads. Nice and friendly. Coffee and ambiance. Maybe should think about presenting a couple of signature dishes for Autumn? Something to give difference. What I recommend is Sephardic chicken soup with matzo. And some good chicken liver pate on a traditional baguette. Not toasted! With home made gherkin pickle. If it wasn't this, what about some other Israeli style food? Auckland needs it.

Came for a sunny seat outside just off queen street and the healthy lunch, lots of vegetarian, organic and locally sourced options. Took a sunny seat outside and had a baguette with home made hummus, roasted aubergine and peppers- it was moist and juicy, plus a home made passion fruit fermented soda, really unusual and refreshing. Then I stayed for the sublime cheesecake with a cream cheese frosting. Mariana my server was super friendly. Didn't stay for dinner but noticed the wine list is clearly by someone who loves wine! Shop had great looking produce. Am going back this weekend with friends.

I have been to scarecrow twice, won’t be coming back. Love the concept, the design and the feel. Unfortunately, the service is questionable - the waitress who served us was obviously not very well trained as she had no idea what we were ordering. It took 20mn before we had our food although we had ordered something out of the cabinet which was ready made. The food is mildly overpriced - $14 for a sandwich which didn’t blow me away (on the photo you can only see half the sandwich I ordered). First time we were there, the service was also slow and I was given a sandwich with meat in it although I specifically asked for vegetarian foods off the menu... The manager is very nice and professional though. You can see her working hard amongst her staff which you don’t see often.

I popped in for a snack but ended up having a most delicious dinner instead. The lamb melted in my mouth and the cauliflower mash was pureed perfection. I had asked for some bread which was a generous serving and home-made sourdough goodness. One can taste the care that has been taken to procure high quality ingredients and the sheer talent presented by the chef. A classic meal that left a lasting impression and service that was exceptionally memorable.

Had breakfast here two days in a row. Loved the ambience - rustic deli, cafe, fruit and veg shop. Italian scrambled eggs were delicious as was the coffee. Particularly nice staff first day but fairly average following day. If I lived in Auckland I would definitely frequent. If you are after fresh flowers they are beautifully presented and well priced.
