One of the best markets I've been to, especially in Australia. There's no cheap quality rubbish here... everything is of a high standard and probably produced by a local artisan or someone who is a specialist in their craft with a real passion for what they do. Allow about 3 hours to go through at a leisurely pace. So much wonderful food here as well, Just try not to go on to same day as a cruise trip is visiting Hobart. It really does spoil it a bit.
We had an amazing time visiting Salamanca Market in December 2024. The market is huge, with an incredible variety of stalls showcasing local products, crafts, and delicious food.nnIt was bustling with visitors, creating a lively and vibrant atmosphere. The market had a fantastic selection of local farmers and crafters, making it the perfect place to discover authentic, handmade items and fresh produce - Tasmania fruits and honey.nnThe atmosphere was also beautiful, with the historic backdrop of Salamanca Place adding a charming touch to the experience.nnHighly recommended!
Very busy and full of all sorts of produce, clothing, food etc. Park as close as you can. If you use the paid parks make sure your ticket is up to date as the parking officers do check and write tickets.nFood was nice and it was a good 2 hours of walking around one of the best markets.
Nice weekend market to visit if you are in Hobart.nnIt’s busy but organised - there are enough bins for the wastes and I like that all the bins come with sorting guidelines.nnThe oysters are fresh and good value - $32 for a dozen. The vendor provides vinegar and tabasco also on the side.nnThe tart stand has beautiful Portuguese tart, not cheap but is a lovely desert to finish your visit.nnThe bisque from Kray Kray is a wonderful choice if you need something warm in a autumn morning.nnWe also purchased a little pendant from Forest Adorned. She makes silver/bronze jewelries inspired by local leaves, which we think is a great and beautiful idea.
Super large market with an extensive range of stalls ranging from food, drinks gins, whiskey, wine, local produce, locally made items. Plenty to see and taste. The gin tasting stalls and fudge were the best. Found a honey gin that was a must buy and drink me. Personally I don’t find markets fun, but this was really good and a great way to spend a few hours or more meandering.
