Took myself in after calling the direct health line and their recommendation to attend the ED. Having been sick for nearly two weeks, I was very unwell but didn’t want to admit it. Walked into ED, receptionist took my details and I was triaged almost instantly. Due to the results I was taken straight back and ended up staying for a week. Everyone in ED was fantastic and got me back to full health and explained everything in detail. Very grateful for everyone who got me the immediate access I needed, and the results so quickly.
One of the worst emergency experiences I've ever had. I had severe stomach pain due to gastroenteritis about 4 days back and rushed to ECU. I was cramped up and vomitting in front of the staff, but they still didn't help me recover correctly. The triage nurse was not empathetic one bit and I was put with an intern doctor that didn't help come to the bottom of the problem. 4 days later and when I went to my GP they said that I have high liver function on the report and they should have done an Ultrasound then. He kept using the excuse of me being young and my bloods being all good to not do an Ultrasound, pretty pathetic when I think about it now. Also it took me 11 hours to get discharged and a few times when I called the nurse they blatantly ignored me whilst chatting to their colleagues. This system is very downwards.
I went this Ed several times for my aspirations pneumonia within last three months. The triage nurse Wouldn't allow me to see any doctor regarding my increased difficulty of breathing and aspiration episodes. They keep directing me to see specialist from outside to suction. Until now nothing has been done. Everytime I was the last patient left unseen in waiting room. The average waiting time was 5hrs. Previously they have been misdiagnosed me for the same medical condition with gastroscopy in 3/3/25 but ended up with multiple biopsies. I waited for 21hrs for aspiration but ended up with this medical incident. Leaving my aspirations pneumonia getting worse. I am now still experiencing worsened breathing issues due to this matter, until now no nurse accepts me to see any physician to suction my food content out of my lung. Very poor care delivery.
The average wait time for non-life threatening conditions is 10 or more hours on a busy night. So you are better off going to a medical centre the next day unless you are dying. The worst thing is and it’s not their fault is that the triage nurses won’t be honest about this waiting time. When they say they don’t know, they probably do know that it will take more than 10 hours to be seen by a doctor.
Expect long wait times. The doctors and nurses are great, except the African nurse that hurt me when drawing blood from my hand. Two weeks later and my hand is still sore.
