A wonderful old building, built in the 1920's, period furniture. We stayed for 2 nights in a deluxe room, large and spacious. Bathroom was a challenge, a small vanity, and shower over the bath, but it's heritage listed! Wonderful views, over Sydney Harbour. We attended a dinner on the Saturday night, the table was beautiful, very nice food and service. You have to be sponsored by a member to book.
My Father invited us here for his birthday and to be honest I was alittle apprehensive, because I was afraid the place would be really old fashioned and dated. To my delight it was not, they have kept alot of the extravagance and opulence of the club with a some modern day upgrades. I wouldn't say it rivals the top class hotels in the area, but the rooms are big and well furnished although they need some cleaning up in certain areas, like the bathroom needs abit of work, for example the soap dispensers were held on the mirror with double sided tape, which was coming off and we had to keep pushing it back on. Other then a few little things the room was great. The decor of the building was great and it certainly took us back in time, from the old style phone booths to the lifts that were so old but really nice. The ballroom and everywhere else was delightful. Food, they have updated their chef and menu and from what ive heard from my father its a massive difference from before. I'd give the food a 3.5 out of 5. Great taste, well cooked. But lacked just the finishing touches of a great restaurant. Staff, they were really friendly but you could tell they were alittle new or just were not trained up enough, this is the same at most places due to covid. One of the best features is by far the garage and its location, its right on circular quay, so if you book parking, you can park and leave the car their during your stay and walk everywhere. You do however have to be a member or a guest of a member to stay there, membership its alittle pricey. But you get membership to many other clubs around the world. We would definitely like to go back at some stage.
This place is a blast in the past and back to the imperial days. I had flash backs of being back in London and visit old establishments. Even the smell is very familiar. This place is Definately worth a visit and even has spaces for conferences and accomodation. The war memorabilia is also very interning with some amazing pieces to view. Definately takes you back to a place that is pre- Australia! GOD save the Queen!
Rooms clean and comfortable. Dining and Reception staff for breakfast were charming and professional. Breakfast excellent. Overall stay very good.
A wonderful old worldly peaceful place. How wonderful it still exists, all similar places have been demolished. Great delicious food.
Wonderful food and views, excellent atmosphere, very helpful staff, a 5 star experience.
This hidden sanctuary has not been discovered by many. A preserve from the city, right in the heart of it. Not many know of it or have been there. If you have a chance to visit or become a member, I highly recommend it. The harbour dining food is on par with other more well known restaurants, the steaks are prime, the wine list is extensive and well maintained.
Love this place. Old World charm, like being back in the officers mess.
Comfortable but overpriced given that it is a bit run down and the menu is a bit limited
I stay at the club whenever we are in town. There are not many places where you can get a great room overlooking circular quay so wonderfully central to everything in the city. the building was constructed in 1925 or so and inside it looks like it would have back then. It is certainly not a modern venue but it really is walking back into the old world. The best thing about the club however is the service. From the Garage in the basement to the restaurant on the top floor the staff just cannot do enough to help out.
