Rinadeena Station is a major stop on the West Coast Wilderness Railway between Queenstown and Strahan on Tasmania's West Coast. It also marks the top of the Rinadeena Saddle, a climb which makes the West Coast Wilderness Railway the steepest steam haul railway in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the most significant heritage railways in the world. The climb is made possible by use of the Abt Rack and Pinion system, which employs a pinion engine in specially-adapted steam locomotives and a third, geared, rail or rack along the line. The train stops at Rinadeena for around 20 minutes before continuing either east towards Queenstown or west towards Strahan. There is a station building, interpretive displays, toilet facilities and a overpass walkway across the line, making for terrific photos of the train at the station. Heading west, the next section of the line runs down the side of the spectacular King River Gorge and Dubbil Barril, the next station along on the shores of the King River. It is not possible to visit Rinadeena other than on board the West Coast Wilderness Railway. The Railway's Rack and Gorge half day tour and Queenstown Explorer full day tour both visit Rinadeena.
