This morning I attended with my little 9 year old. The whole team were profession , kind and apologetic for the lengthy delays. They made a previously bad experience with blood draw for my son much more bearable. From Karen preparing him and doing the paper work to Amanda who was amazing and despite my son's very tiny non-visible veins she got it first go !nHonestly appreciate the team there more than I can express.nThey battled cranky customers , IT issues and multiple other hurdles no one wants to deal with on a very busy Thursday morning with poise and professionalism.
A complete shambles. 16 people lining up at the door from 6am-7am, then finding out only 1 nurse was working as staff were sick. Multiple people leaving, others staying. The poor nurse was all on her own, overwhelmed and stressed. People waiting hours to be seen as there are barely any pathology collection places open in town, or can’t keep staff so not enough nurses. Elderly required to wait for hours whilst fasting, pregnant women and children can barely book glucose tests as nobody answers the phone. Appalling. Can’t contact QML to raise concerns as they don’t reply. Member for parliament can’t even get a reply about the lack of service either. Feel sorry for the workers, no wonder they leave as they aren’t supported at all.
Amanda was wonderful. I have always had issues with getting my bloods taken small veins but Amanda didn't hesitate at all and new immediately what to do. Also a very sweet, gentle human :
I require regular blood tests and have very small, difficult veins that often collapse or stop flowing. From experience, I know the outer vein and a small butterfly vacutainer work best for me. Syringe suction simply doesn’t work, yet many collectors still insist on trying it first, only to have it fail and then revert to a tiny butterfly vacutainer.nnAmanda was exceptional. Her response to my request was amazing, she didn’t take it as me trying to tell her how to do her job or as if I “knew better,” but simply listened and understood that some patients genuinely know what works best for their body. She straight up used the method I suggested without ANY hesitation, and the result was a smooth, pain-free collection with consistent flow.nnAmanda’s professional, caring, and patient-centred approach is a credit to QML. It’s refreshing to be treated with respect and understanding, and I truly appreciated the level of care she provided.
This place is a joke. 2 hour wait time yesterday to get bloods, a lot of people in the waiting room were annoyed. New people walk in and get seen first, some have sob stories of places to be and the staff just bump them up the list, no one is seen in the order they arrive which is how it should be tough bickies, we all got other places to be. This isn't the first time its happened here either, and it's the same at the one at the GP Superclinic, she chooses who she wants to see next. Gladstone is growing and services like this are essential and they're not keeping up.
