The young lady in the morning was very helpful advising me that the atm was at the other end of the market, and when I arrived back at 4.45pm (I checked that they closed at 5 on google) I was told they had closed the till early and I couldn’t purchase any water or cold drinks, which was a bit frustrating as it was 32 degrees and I had a long way back to walk to the entrance of the park. Very disappointed that the only place that sells water and drinks in a huge national park closes early.

Part of Australian history I was never fully aware of .

1. Summer time brings the added surprise of Tiger Snakes, Watch you Footsteps! They appear at 18 degrees & are active when temperatures hit 30 degrees. Pathways and roads are frequented by snakes! This time of year also has flies breeding at plague like numbers. Insect repellent doesn't seem to bother them, so a hat with netting or corks are handy. 2. Though there is a 30 kpm Speed Limit, most people ignore this, making some of the travels along side narrow tarred roads somewhat dicey. Bicycles are available for rent, however given the slightly high cost vs the use one would get out of it, makes their service, overpriced. The Park has a bus to transport people to the end of the park, yet $10 for a one way trip, $15 for return is also overpriced. 3. There are very few Taps, with drinkable water, and even fewer toilets inside the entire park, so one is best, to plan ahead. Bring your own water bottle, toilet paper and a torch if you stay into the night. 4. BBQ's have been removed, therefore one has to bring a Gas styled cooking unit. As campfires are banned. 5. Swimming/Surfing/Camping/Campfires are all prohibited making this not the funnest place on the planet. 6. Though the park closes between 5 - 6 pm, vehicles can exit the premises at all hours, and it is suggested, to park ones car at the Gunners Cottage, if one is wishing to visit the Bunkers near the point. Occasionally late working staff, cleaners or even security will be still using the road, so do not assume roads will be safe. 7. There are no public phones in the Park, the closest phone is at the Portsea Township. 8. Blairgrowie, Sorrento and Portsea Shops are overpriced. The joke of an IGA supermarket in Sorrento sells a bottle of Non Cold Coke 1.25 for 4-5 dollars. 2-3 dollars more than the average. Be sure to do any shopping for items well before the Portsea Township. Rye and Rosebud are the nearest, competitively priced shopping centres. Welcome to the rich part of town. :( 9. The bus trip from Frankston Railway Station takes 1 hour and 40 minutes. Bring a book!... 10. During the peak tourist time, certain areas are restricted to the public. For example the Barefoot Cinema, likes to overcharge and includes a un-necessary bus ride, while telling the public they cannot use certain roads. Know your rights, which in Australia means very little! Yet this is a public location and should not be denied to any section of the public. Just like the Polo, people with money can bend the rules and the Park needs money....

Thank you for keeping the history alive! I find it useful and more personal to have people around to talk to at information centres! This particular one is special as the whole Point Nepean used to be out of bound to the public when it was still for military use. What a place to visit! The staff is friendly! I need to buy an ice cream each time I visit! There are so many walks! There are buses during the weekend to help those in need. Please bring some warm clothes as the wind can be strong. I love watching the passing Tasmanian Ferries from here - the narrowest point before entering Bass Strait!! I used to watch out Point Nepean and Point Lonsdale, and Dromana when I take the day ferry to Tasmania, another of my favourite destination!! Hope it helps
