I was recommended this by a friend who said their salt and pepper tofu was the best he'd ever tried. I was not disappointed. Silken tofu encased by thick, uneven batter that allowed for texture variation along with the use of the fried and fresh shallots made it a perfect dish. The chow mein stir fries were also excellent. The veggies done to textural perfection. I was a bit disappointed with the price points. The mains were all over $20 and the fresh rice paper rolls whilst nice were certainly not $15 nice! Still, I'll be coming back here. The service was great.
After an afternoon of shopping. We were all hungry. Was looking for best Vietnamese restaurants in the area and Pho Phd popped up. The place has a nice ambience, was not too crowded. We ordered Vietnamese Spring Rolls, Rare Beef Pho, Pork Chop with rice and Crispy Skin Chicken with Rice. To my surprise, our order was served within 5 minutes.
Sorry it's taken me so long to try this place. It's spot on, and probably a contender for the best Vietnamese in Marrickville. Big call! You have to get the salt and pepper tofu, even if you can't finish it. The pork and spring roll vermicelli, and shaking beef were also the best we've had in the area. They get busy, so plan your visit. They also serve their food in The Marrickville Hotel - amazing, right!
Caught up with our besties and decided to go to PHD. Had the salt and pepper tofu, salt and pepper squid, salt and pepper eggplant, spring rolls and vermicelli spring rolls. This restaurant is super busy however food came out super fast! All dishes were absolutely amazing! the salt and pepper eggplant and salt and pepper squid were so delicious that you really can’t stop at just a few. The texture and taste were spot on and probably the best we’ve tasted. The tofu was also very delicious. The vermicelli rolls had the perfect balance of flavours and the dipping sauce I could have drank! …. it was that good! The portion sizes were very generous and the staff were all so friendly and hospitable. We will most certainly make PHD a regular spot now ….. defs worth the drive!
Tasty, reasonably priced dishes with simple interiors and friendly staff. For someone like me who doesn’t really eat that much Vietnamese food, this place is a good start. I tried their Crispy Pancake, Vermicelli Noodles with Lemongrass pork with spring rolls and Boneless Stuffed Chicken wings. I love the flavours and will definitely go back.
Very tasty food with generous serving sizes. The caramelised pork was super juicy cooked in a delicious, umami sauce. The next highlight was a deep fried eggplant dish which was delightful and super juicy - a crispy coating that will please carnivores and vegans alike. We had chicken rice paper rolls to start standard fare and also had diced pepper beef tasty but not wow and chicken fried rice. Overall a good meal. BYO - it came to about $130 for 2 people.
Encountered this Vietnamese restaurant while going on walks along the heart of Marrickville and decided to have a go. On Friday night the place wasn’t that busy but lots of deliveries though. The food came out super quick after we placed our orders. The beef pho tastes okay but not quite flavourful and the broth actually lacks a depth of spices and beef bone. The spring rolls and sugarcane prawn are good but the lemongrass pork is overly salty in the vermicelli bowl. All mains are at $20 price mark but personally I think it’s not good for value as of small portion sizes. Service is just okay - the serving ladies aren’t that friendly and kept clearing up our bowls as soon as we finished which I found quite disturbing and impolite. Also after coming home, I felt the surge of MSG building up inside and didn’t feel great at all…
I ordered via doordash. I had the following: Egg noodle and crispy chicken - so so good! Texture and flavours are on point. Green papaya salad - although it has prawn and pork, I think something's missing in terms of the taste and flavour. Steam rice with pork combination and frieg egg - yummy! Totally satisfied. I will definitely order here again and again and again.
Very disapointing. I was hoping for fresh crisp Vietnamese cuisine. Every single thing we ordered was very greasy, soggy, too sweet and over cooked. It tasted like it was made with poor quality ingredients and cheap oil. I will definitely not order here again.
Really good beef pho and vermicelli salad! The broth is really nice for the pho. It's a pretty small portion compared to other pho restaurants that I have visited, so if you want the normal pho size, then order a large or an xl if you're a big eater! I thought it was a good size to share a side dish! The vermicelli salad had beef and spring rolls, really flavourful and a light dish in my opinion! Good portion! They serve really quick which is a big plus!
