My wife and I live in a 1938 California Bungalow which still has its original art deco leadlight windows. Unfortunately we had a break-in a few months ago and in order to gain access to the house the culprits ripped one of the window panes out of the frame, completely destroying it in the process. Some of the smaller sections of glass remained intact but that was it. As it would be for anyone who has encountered a break-in at their home we found it to be a stressful and upsetting experience and this was further compounded by the fact that we had lost a part of the character and history of our home. We set about speaking to a number of different companies in the hope of getting the old window rebuilt, however most of them didn't seem interested in such a "small job" and they all told us that our old chickens foot glass the style used in part of our window was impossible to find and no longer available. Essentially we received a number of quotes but all suggesting that we must opt for a different type of glass for the border, which would mean that the reconstructed window wouldn't match the others in our house. It is safe to say that we didn't know what to do until we started our conversation with Ian at Perth Art Glass. From our first contact Ian was warm, friendly and understanding whilst at the same time professional and as passionate as we were about getting our old window restored. After a few emails and photos Ian provided us with a competitive quotation and said that he was working with his contacts in an effort to source some the seemingly unattainable chickens foot glass for use on the border. A few weeks later Ian came over to our house and inspected the windows and then took away the remains of our damaged window for further inspection. Fast forward a few weeks and we received a call from Ian to say that he had successfully sourced all of the relevant glass and that our window was now rebuilt and ready for installation! We thought it was too good to be true, surely after all this pain it couldn't be that easy? The following week Ian arrived to personally install our window and he did a fantastic job. Ian has worked in this industry for many, many years but he seemed just as excited about our window as we were. It is so refreshing to work with someone that is so passionate about their trade and the standard of their work. The result is that our window now looks as good as the day it was first installed in 1938 and matches perfectly with our original windows. Ian also managed to save a number of sections from the old window and use them in the rebuild which means that history of the home has been carried across to the new installation. We really couldn't be happier with the finished product, the overall service and the genuine warmth and professionalism shown by Ian. I hope that this review goes someway towards conveying just how positive our experience has been. If you want to avoid the cowboys and those that overcharge and under deliver then speak to Ian at Perth Art Glass and you won't be disappointed.
Ian repaired our circa 1890 stained glass doors: the cracked panels were replaced/matched perfectly and the workmanship on the lead grout lines was outstanding. Highly recommended.
