As I was just passing through Bairnsdale the proprietor of Peppers had only one chance and one chance only. They failed dismally. The grilled fish appeared waif thin like cardboard (had the texture and flavour of it also) and came with no lemon to improve it. Moving onto the fried goods, the potato cake and calamari were fried until an inch of their lives and were a real tongue burner. Strangely the potato was raw and uncooked in the middle. That’s no mean feat, I was slightly impressed and would have been more so hadn’t half my tongue blistered off on the exterior batter. Did I mention salt? There was no shortage of it. Needs improvement, would not go back

Probably the worst fish and chips I've ever had. Got fish and chips and it was over cooked and hadn't been drained properly. Very disappointing as it used to be good food. Wouldn't bother going back.

This place was recommended to us by the locals as this is where the locals go. We were impressed. It's not the cheapest in town but we enjoyed it.
