Paronella Park

About

No1 Must-Do Tourist Attraction in QLD!

Story

Everyone has a dream, but not everyone’s dreams are fulfilled. José Paronella’s dream was to build a castle. He chose a special part of Australia and created Paronella Park. On 5 Hectares beside Mena Creek Falls he built his castle, picnic area by the falls, tennis courts, bridges, a tunnel, and wrapped it up in an amazing range of 7,500 tropical plants and trees (now a lush rainforest!). It opened to the public in 1935.

Paronella Park has received multiple Queensland tourism awards, is State and National Heritage listed and is a National Trust listed property. It is privately owned and operated and Eco accredited. Paronella Park is the site of Queensland’s 1st privately owned hydro electric plant (1933).

The night tours are not to be missed. The free camping was an added bonus, as we planned to stay elsewhere then visit. The sights were spectacular. The owner is such a genuine person with a fantastic vision, combined with a real respect for the property's history. What is included in entry to this magnificent place is amazing and well worth the trip. I felt my inner child come out to play on the night tour. It felt like something out of a princess movie. Think Jungle Book meets Anastasia. We'll definitely be using our 2 year free pass (another amazing inclusion) to bring family and friends back.

Worth the trip, wasn't aware it was $45pp for entry but you do get a guide that talks to you for 45 minutes about the history of the beautiful place. You will also get some fish food to feed the turtles and fish, great fun and adds to the experience. Would highly recommend going early so if you want to take pictures you have the perfect opportunity. Well worth the visit.

We drove almost 2 hours to there from Cairns with GPS. It’s not difficult but the reception around the park was poor. We have joined the guided tour and were impressed by their high quality and passion! The place was full of history and touching stories. It was really worth to go and I highly recommend it!

Nice tour explaining the history which is genuinely interesting. The advertising photos aren't as is it which I felt was a little misleading there are alot of areas that are closed of due to safety concerns. Beautiful waterfall. Feeding fish and turtles. $45 per adult for tour!

I spent an amaaazing time with my husband at Paronella Park!! By the time we arrived we were welcomed by the owner of the park who is a lovely and kind person. As soon as we got in we felt that special energy and how nature blessed everything. We've done the tour with the lovely guide Mai and she explained to us all the history involved in each part of the park with a lot of passion. It's impossible not to fall in love for all the effort done by Jose and his family to turn that place in a sanctuary. Going to Paronella Park is definitely an fulfilling experience! Thanks for the good time we spent there =)
