HIGHLY ADVISED THAT YOU READ BEFORE PURCHASING ANYTHING FROM THIS ‘BUSINESS’. First off, if you do purchase something from Lola, >>>MAKE SURE YOU PAY THROUGH PAYPAL! <<< Or don’t at all. Read below. We have had the most unfortunate opportunity dealing with Lola after booking a one-day paella making course with Lola. This was also booked under my partners name – just in case there is a reply to this review saying: “we haven’t had any booking under this name”. To begin with all seemed fine until we got a text message from Lola the MORNING OF our class 19th Nov saying it was cancelled due to her being sick food poisoning. Sure, a bit unforeseeable, but frustrating nonetheless, and too bad if you had already declined other plans for that Saturday. It was mentioned that the booking would be rescheduled. We then received a message from Lola 24th Nov with a rescheduled time for the class 27th Nov. There was no communication with us and I would assume anyone else in regard to which time was best suited. The scheduling for us 3 people was unworkable and we emailed Lola to arrange another time 17th Dec or a refund. Lola wrote back to us saying they wouldn’t be open during that requested time because they were closed for the Christmas break – there was no mention of the refund. We then received a message from Lola on the MORNING OF again the class time she had rescheduled 27th Nov saying that she had to cancel as she was unwell yet again. She then rang us to explain and had no idea that we had already asked to reschedule. Again, no mention of a refund and as we were out we left the matter to correspond via email that afternoon. Over the course of the next two weeks, we emailed Lola three times requesting for a refund. No response. I eventually had to call her, to which my calls were all unanswered/declined, but received an instant message back advising that she preferred to “text”. During our texting correspondence remembering this is supposed to be a professional business I asked for a refund. Conveniently, there was a significant delay with her reply which then was “I will get back to you today”. She did not – at this point, I am not surprised and I’m starting to feel scammed out of $420. I had to text her again that evening to remind her of the phone call/email she promised. We then received an email from Lola essentially saying: “we don’t do refunds”. Now, after this fiasco of cancellations and poor communication, you’d think that a professional business would provide a lawful refund. Apparently not. According to Australian Consumer Laws a consumer is entitled to a refund if a provider cancels a scheduled service. Even after providing this information to Lola, we heard nothing. We had to escalate our matter to PayPal who were able to provide us with a refund. Thanks PayPal. Of note, it is illegal for a business to say that they “Do not provide refunds” – so don’t worry about what their website page says. **If the option to pay Lola via PayPal is removed after this review is posted, take that as a sign that she has no intention of providing lawful refunds and that you are likely to be scammed** Lola and her business are the perfect example of ‘how not to run a business’. The level unprofessionalism is astounding and is likely to reflect the service she would if ever provide. There are other places in Melbourne that can also provide similar, and assumingly better, services, but without the headache. It was only after she was, essentially, forced to provide a refund did we conclude our engagement. Just do yourself a favour and avoid this business. Lola, your behaviour is embarrassing, and by the looks of your other bad reviews, I feel like it would have been totally on me if I was dissapointed by your class.
Yay had so much fun! Lola is a great bubbly teacher and the food is soo yummy!!! Definitely will be recommending and revisiting soon
Had a Wounderful time at her class . Was awesome . Lola is great . She is fun and exciting. She also has a world of knowledge and experience.
Not worth the money! I booked the cooking class as a surprise date night for my fiancé but was very dissappointed. We did not go to the market and did not make pisco sour as advertised pisco sour was replaced with sangria wine. I did not learn anything about cooking the dishes but we were all just cutting ingrediences. Had to go to Maccas after the cooking class because we were still hungry. I definitely cannot recommend this cooking class
I had the best experience Cooking with Lola. She is so lovely and very enthusiastic. We cooked some delicious food and the group in general had a fab day. I would definitely recommend to others. Thank you Lola!
If you want to actually learn how to cook this is not the class for you. The class is done outside on picnic tables where each individual is given 1 item to cut up. When booking online, the Neff Market Kitchen is shown in the photos, but in reality the class takes place outside of a cafe. When going through the market to source ingredients Lola walks from counter to counter saying what ingredients we are going to get, rather than how to choose quality ingredients. At the market she was not invested in interacting with her class, but more invested in talking to her friends at the market, checking her email, and looking at her social media accounts. The information online says the class is around 3 hrs but we were done way before then. The paella is average. Each person gets 1 serving of some rice, 1 prawn, 1 mussel, and 1 small piece of chicken. The aioli served with the paella is not made in the class but store bought. The broth is also made ahead of time before the class. All in all, I could not recommend this class to anyone especially for the price. With the time allotted each person in the class could have done each of the steps. I would have rather enjoyed heading to an authentic Spanish restaurant in the city where the food would have been of a higher caliber for less money.
Lola was great, really fun atmosphere with so many tips to develop your cooking skills. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for cooking classes in Melbourne.
Amazing experience, super funny and happy cooking class! Learned some nice paella tricks and ate everything, needed a piece of bread to clean de plate Best Sangria in town, indeed! Looking forward to having some other Latin cooking class!
