The Otago Art Society aims to promote interest in the study of and practice in the Fine and Applied Arts in Otago. Celebrating our 140th Birthday in 2016.

Story

The Otago Art Society was formed in 1876 by a small group of "gentlemen, favourable to the formation of a Society of Arts in Dunedin". This small beginning flourished to such an extent that by 1897 there were 140 artists and 50 honorary members.

Free to enter it show cases the artwork of local artists, many of which are for sale and at some very reasonable prices. Just the one we both likes was a bit on the big size top go under my seat on the plane. We both loved the exhibition and agreed that some of the talent on show here was better than many of the paintings that are raved about in art galleries. Go have a look you may well could be surprised.

The Year of the Dog show was really enjoyable, made me smile. Always a lovely,light, bright atmosphere in the shop area too.

The picturesque Dunedin Railway Station earned its architect George Troup the nickname "Gingerbread George" and a knighthood from the king.
