Took a journey to a magical vinyl staple house. Northside Records did not disappoint. From the collection to the knowledge of the team, my adventure into the Melbourne CBD look I’m from Adelaide so it was the CBD to me was well worth it. If you’re searching for records and want to talk to people who know their stuff, both local and international you’d be hard pressed to find a better choice.
This store is located on an iconic Fitzroy street and has an infectious community spirit. The owner Chris is a passionate muso who projects positive energy and fun. On my 1st visit he introduced me to a huge selection of awesome music, local gigs, and a slot called The Get Down on the Triple RRR community radio station. Arrive a stranger, leave a friend.
I love this store. The staff have always been happy to chat about my music selections. They have a great selection which is appropriately priced. Good sale section. Only area for growth is CD display. But other than that it’s fantastic
The best record shop I found in the city… it’s just as it should be. They’ve got so much cool stuff, from rare original presses, good represses, international stuff from all over the place, and second hand rare bargain gems too. Also a staggeringly hood collection of blue note records for $30 each. Aaaaaand an amazing set up staff- they know their stuff inside out and are real vinyl pushers. Hand’s down the best shop in town imo.
The store seems to focus on soul, jazz, r&b, etc...so there's plenty to choose from if that's what you're after. Prices were average and not as outrageous as some stores I've been to. If you're looking for metal, punk, or rock then you're better off going to Heartland Records in North Melbourne.
Awesome. Great range, cool staff, good prices, fantastic hair.
Friendly owner and many good soul/funk collections
If you’re a Prince fan you have come to purple heaven with a small shrine to P and Tupac . An eclectic mix of niche vinyl and perfect fur music snobs like me!! Highly recommend a visit.
Just to be clear and respond to your response I think it's great that a record store like yours exists. Diversity is essential in this world. When I described your store as pretentious it had nothing to do with the genre you specialise in but more so the staff member and her attitude towards me. I actually did make a purchase. So I am certainly not "challenged" by any means, just providing a review on my experience in-store. I visited 6 record stores that weekend in the inner city and wrote a review based on my experience. The way you responded to my initial review actually demonstrates and confirms your attitude.
A store that welcomes you and gives you the info you need. Also a massive sponsor of the local musicians. Feels right!
