Nothing screams Niko Niko like a like smacking teriyaki salmon bento box. As one of the few high end Asian restaurants in the region, Niko Niko boasts a unique reputation for its authentic asian flavor and consistent quality.nnHowever, no establishment is perfect and this Swan Hill Japanese eatery is certainly no exception.nnI went to Niko Niko with a party of 6 on a Friday night and it felt like ‘the place to be’: lots of excited groups chatting and a pleasant aroma wafting through the air. Throughout our visit we did make a few notes of constructive feedback:nnInteresting technical tea pot. But the teacups don’t hold heat very wellnnMiso soup was steaming hot. Flavor-wise neither does it stand out or disappoint. Some room for improvement here.nnOne of our guests was served far later than everyone else, forcing him to have to painfully watch us eat our meals.nnThe sweet n sour chicken was nice and crispy. However had a paper on the bottom that became sloppy after a while.nnThe salmon sashimi was superbly soft. The pottery was very cool. No room for improvement here.
This was my second visit. I had lunch here last time and really enjoyed the food, so I came back to try dinner.nThe service was just as good—staff were super friendly and welcoming. The food was also just as delicious as I remembered! I highly recommend their Bento sets, especially if you like having a variety of flavors in one meal. I also loved their spicy sauce dishes—super flavorful and go perfectly with rice.nThe only dish I was a bit disappointed with was the Prawn Tempura. It looked good but tasted quite bland in my opinion.nOne important tip: definitely book in advance, especially on Friday nights or weekends. We called on Friday to reserve a table for a farewell gathering, but indoor seating was already fully booked. We tried walking in early on Saturday, but still couldn’t get a table inside.nWe ended up sitting outside, which wasn’t ideal. It was cold and windy, and since we were the only table out there, it felt a little isolating. I think the outdoor area could benefit from some decoration or a warmer setup to improve the atmosphere.nOverall, the food was great and the service was lovely. I’d definitely come back again—just with a reservation next time!
Back in Swan Hill for work and back at Niko Niko for dinner. Time to try the new location which is across from the old closed one. This truly is a breathtaking space and it’s hard to believe you are not sitting in an elegant restaurant in Melbourne City. The decor is next level and yet again, so is the food! Keep in mind it’s a Thursday evening and the place is alive and bustling. Take away orders are being pumped out and efficient staff are up and down the busy restaurant ensuring a wait time is moderately low. The quality of food is exceptional and it’s no hidden secret to locals and visitors, this is the Japanese gem of Swan Hill. Check out the new fit out, it pairs beautifully with the sensational food.
This place is the best ever if you guys have a problem with how they make the food and that its 'worse' then Melbourne or Adelaide go back home then, dont bother reviewing. Be grateful for the food you have and will get. If I see any more 1 star reviews about tables or staff members just remember.... Niko Niko is a very loved restaurant it is a luxury thing for us people in swan hill amd we love it bc their food is amazing, their staff members are brilliant. So if you dont like it suck it up and go away
We had a delicious dinner here on our weekend away. It was quite busy, but despite not having booked a table, we were seated immediately upon arrival. We ordered the house sake, asahi beer and two special bento meals. Very good price/quality and service. I loved the jar and cup that the sake came in too.
