I had an amazing year here, got a lot of experience and great opportunities through the school. Even after leaving. It's definitely worth it, as long as you take it seriously and put in the work.
I studied the 1 year diploma course and really enjoyed my experience meeting likeminded people and having heaps of opportunities to work with industry professionals!!
Horrible institution. I regret doing this course. They completely lied about the level of education I signed up for. My class consisted of me and one other person. We had two people in our class the entire year. They constantly changed teachers on us and each taught a completely different way of doing things, so every semester we would have to un-learn what we had been taught. Most questions the teachers could not answer because they, themselves have no idea what it's like to work in the current Film and Television industry. Do not go here. This is a money-grabbing scam. What they say on their website is completely false.
My journey started back in 2018 as an International Student, transitioning from a different career to Filmmaking with no knowledge about cameras or how film sets worked. I was lucky enough to have studied Diploma & Advance Diploma in Filmmaking from 2018 to 2020. I am what I am today because of the resources, networking and skills that I’ve gained during my time at NYFA Southport & NYFA VRS. Getting the opportunity to work on different student film sets in and out of Nyfa during my course was an exceptional experience and an amazing opportunity to gain insights about the local Australian Film Industry from industry professionals. The other great thing about NYFA courses are that they’re all hands on and you get to work with latest industry standard equipments and are taught on how to utilise these resources to its potential. Doing this course inspired me to continue my studies further and gain a direct pathway to do my Bachelor’s in Filmmaking from Griffith Film School Brisbane. Today I’m working in the industry as a professional and it’s all thanks to my mentors, alumni & peers from Nyfa. Big shout out to Harry Student Services who helped me transition into my studies at the campus in Southport Gold Coast and helped me with getting my Pathway to Griffith Film School & other big shout out to Patrick Ryan for being an amazing mentor during Nyfa. I would definitely recommend at least having a tour or open day to understand on how they operate and what they have to offer compared to other institutions or universities.
Teen went to the academy for one week. They don't stay there. She loved every moment. Taught as much as you can in one week. Some acting students, some directing. All filmed at Movie World on day three. On the last day there was a presentation with Certificates awarded and each student was allowed two guests to watch their finished films. Well worth it for anyone wanting to see how the industry works
Go Somewhere else ! Disappointing to say the least. They are after tuition fees not supporting students in their career journey. I left and they chased me for the remainder of a year I didn't participate in as the first semester was so terrible I couldn't believe I wasted any money on it. so so so bad
NYFAA gave me a good foundation of theory and practical learning to help me get my foot in to the industry. I also made many connections that I cherish to this day. Studying at NYFAA with the lecturers that were there was the stepping stone I needed to keep on pursuing my goals.
