Integrative Approaches
Dr Mullen is a general practitioner who integrates conventional medical wisdom with diet, nutrition, supplementation, lifestyle and exercise providing an approach to restoration of your unique health based on the most appropriate, safe and evidence-based modalities available.
We know that an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise or little recreation time can lead to imbalances in your biochemistry and eventually to disease. Research also shows that environmental and emotional stress negatively impacts our body, and therefore our health and accelerates the aging process. On top of this our environment contains more chemical challenges and pollutants than ever before, and we live a high paced life where it is possible to ignore symptoms. An integrative approach is a medical model that actively considers these challenges and encourages good choices for prevention and treatment of disease states before they cause major health issues.
Self Healing
Pausing and listening to our body is an essential starting point for healing because our body’s habits are our mind’s habits, and our mind habits are linked to our dis “ease” whether it be physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. This is because emotions and memories are stored in our body and show up as tensions, aches and pains that cause us to feel chronically tired, emotionally drained and disconnected.
A session of quiet listening using the body as a doorway into the self can be a good starting point when there are no words for your experience, and when anxiety or exhaustion is a key symptom. These sessions are based on the work of Eugen Gendlin, Ilana Rubenfeld and many other body centered practitioners who understand that the body is our sub-conscious mind and have shared ways to access it’s wisdom.
Jennifer Mullen uses relational psychotherapy to repair early attachment issues, and psychoanalytic interventions to encourage understanding, integration and creative adaptions to trauma, grief, depression and anxiety.
Voice Dialogue may be suggested for both individual and couples work. It is a lovely way of working with the many selves that make up each of us, and learning how parts of our personality developed or didn’t get developed. People can experience being more centered within these natural polarities and are able to more easily navigate their world with more integrity, awareness and choice. It also helps with understanding our body symptoms and dreams – our subconscious mind.
Meditation groups run throughout the year and private meditation sessions are only available to existing psychotherapy patients. As a psychotherapist, Jennifer must rule out a more serious mental health concern.
Meditation begins the journey back to self by simply letting go of the busyness of life. It is helpful in therapy because by taking time to pause, to become more fully conscious of the present moment, you become more aware of your impulses and therefore your choices in any moment.
Our mission is to provide the highest standard of patient care to the community of Townsville offering physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and integrative care.
