Monforte Viennoiserien- Leatherwood honey & sea salt $7.5 n- Wattleseed, almond & chocolate tiramisu $10n- Maple pain perdu, whipped cream & greengage $11.5 nnAfter my Nth attempt, finally got to try Monforte pastries. I couldn’t stop raving how good their pastries are! Their signature honey and sea salt was 5/5! Buttery, flakey with a honey wash on the outside and sea salt for balancing. The tiramisu was another star! Pastry still remained crispy even with a cream filling. The filling had the right amount of bitterness and sweetness! So well balanced! The Maple Pain Persu was slightly sugary for my liking. I did not regret waking early for them! Would 100% come back again!
There is a tiny shop where you can buy croissants through the window. The taste was incredible! I will definitely buy one again.
Monforte is a popular patisserie in Carlton that is known for their croissants. We got the leatherwood honey & sea salt croissant and beef mustard banksia pastry. The sea salt croissont was my fave, I liked the contrast between the sweet and saltiness. The savoury pastry was also quite tasty but didn’t love the cured beef. Will be back to try the other items!
I really wanted to like this bakery but ultimately had some feedback on the pastries. We ordered:n1. Black cherry elderflower kouign aman: The custard was good but a bit too sweet--ideally the acidity/tartness of the cherries would have shine through but it didn't. The pastry itself was very buttery and deliciousn2. Maple bacon, smoked raclette and dill pickle croissant: While meant to be a savory croissant it was still a bit too sweet--I found I could only handle a few bitesn3. Twice baked apricot and almond croissant: The pastry itself was great but the filling was extremely sweet. I could really only handle a biten4. green garlic, chevre, and honey: This pastry was a 5/5 -- incredibly well balanced flavors, perfectly constructed pastries. If they can apply this to all pastries they'll be unstoppable
I had plain croissant this afternoon. It’s flaky, buttery and the texture is good. However there is a bitterness left in the mouth. Ruined everything.
