The Modern Times Bookshop is more than your standard book shop, and will keep you amused and smiling for a good while as you browse the shelves.
Fun shop with art supplies, books, cards, games and etc
My fav place to be when creatively sparked to work on an idea, l stop in here to grab rolls of fabriano paper! Before heading to the rocks to grab much needed equipment!.. usually looking at French made paper, all good for painting using gouache...that's water colour... there is a certain preparation to an artist routine, sometimes it's a short long affair, pending on who you bump into, and what u talk about.. staff here are always helpful .. I recommend this place for variety, reading and art are the main reasons
Hands down the coolest store around. Board games, books, crafting supplies, hilarious cards, puzzles, they seriously have it all. Super helpful staff, when they didn't have the book I wanted the directed me to another shop. Super fun shop. You should visit.
I love this place so much. It's not so much that it has everything – it's a small local shop that tries to do many things, so its stock is not comprehensive – but rather that there is always something good in here. They have the best selection of greetings cards in Newtown IMO, certainly it's the best place for board games and hobby supplies in Newtown, it's the best place to go for art supplies perhaps not the biggest range for art, but certainly the best people to deal with, and also a good book section. Slightly confusing that there often appear to be two businesses here – Art on King and Modern Times – so two locations on Google Maps, and even talking to people I get confused where they're talking about.
This is such a great shop. Half the store is art and craft supplies and they have an extensive range. The other half is books, notebooks, cards and gifts and there's some really interesting stuff here. They have cool pop culture toys and games, calendars, all sorts of quirky stuff. You could browse in here for ages.
Good place to find what you need to complete a tricky art project. Excellent helpful staff, who have great suggestions on goods to buy. I've been shopping here for many years and they just get better. Always good for a Birthday card, paper and a good book for a pressy. Its a 20min drive now for me to get there...plus park but always worth it! Thanks guys... great job!
Great selection of books.and art supplies. They offer art classes as well. Easy.to.get.to by bus and train. I love this place i am.there for hours every time i go.
Wish I could give this place zero stars but the lowest I can go is one. Honestly a real disappointment I was coming in to purchase a book I was really excited about. The blonde lady at the counter who was there today in the afternoon was extremely rude and stuck up. There was another man working with her and he wasn’t serving anyone and I called out to him and then she turned around with attitude and in a condescending voice she said “he’s busy and with someone” even though he was with no one. She clearly hates her job and shouldn’t be working with people. She’s obviously not a peoples person. I came in so happy and walked out miserable, se ruined my day. Don’t come to this bookstore if your not prepared to be let down.
Do you love the smell of books and stationary. Then you'll love this store. Small but crammed with everything a booklover and stationary nerd would love. Love it.
