Very impressed with this Italian restaurant. Very friendly staff, very fast and efficient service Saturday night!!!, delicious food, reasonable prices, a la carte and set menus. Went there for kinda “high quality casual dining”, but it turned to a really fine dining.
*Widely known and traditional Italian restaurant in the middle of Civic. *Featuring southern Italian food eg seafood, nduja, stuffed eggplants, anchovies. *Da Rosario Adjacent hole in the wall serving simple lunch & drinks is closed. I've never actually seen it open tbh. *Braddon's Italian & Sons [I&S] & wine bar Il Bacaro are their more contemporary sister restaurant & bar. Dishes @both restaurants are similar in taste, ingredients and plating. E.g maccheronchini & lamb cf I&S rigatoni&lamb , the octopus dish on special, tiramisu, focaccia. Pros: *Large restaurant, lots of space, quiet. Cf I&S which is smaller & louder *Excellent service & cheerful waitress. *Great mains. My porchetta was perfectly seasoned and cooked, it was stuffed with good quality sausage meat & black pepper. Can't go wrong with green apple puree + pork duo. The candied citrus on top and italian greens were a nice touch. Roasted baby fennel was mushy, possibly overcooked. * Extensive and well priced wine list. *Plain juice also available if non-alcoholic or poor. Cons: *Steep prices. Eye fillet on specials board was $62. You could get a whole banquet of 6 meals @Lazy Su for less than that. I'm taking one star off rating. *Although mains are satiating, serving size still small compared to say, La Rustica. Especially given price point. *6 course tasting menu looked like good value until I realised it was 5 courses for $139, 2 of which were pasta dishes - not my thing. * Compared to my favourite tiramisu @La Rustica, Mezzalira's tiramisu was sweet, dense, the zabaglione more cooked, it had more alcohol. Never a bad thing But didn't hit the spot for me. However, desserts were more affordably priced than mains. Tip: * If you sit by the window, you can see the pretty trees outside see pic *Parking across the road is free after 5.30pm Mondays to Wednesdays. * If you don't want to order a $$ main, try filling up on bread, then order the meaty entree of beef carpaccio and the side of pumpkin & strachiatella salad. With added bonus of getting to taste 2 different dishes instead of just one main
Amazing food. Highly recommended. Just absolutely amazing food and staff were great. Oh can’t because how delicious everything was
Good restaurant i was very hungry. I had the scallops 3 for $32! but very good Carpaccio, lamb, linguini prawns and chocolate orange torte. A bit expensive but I haven't been to Canberra before, so it might be more expensive than Brisbane service: good. prompt, attentioned without being in the way they were quite busy all night, on a Tuesday . food presentation is nice. I ate too much :
Good food and service. It's a got warm ambience with street corner views. The owner's dedication to this establishment shines through. It has a decent wine list and the focaccia with olives is made well. Roast potatoes are real and cooked with olive oil. It's worth a visit for a special occasion. Vegetarian options: There are pizza, pasta, and various side dishes.
Really enjoyed this Italian Restaurant though it was quite noisy. Each plate was beautifully presented and my salt and pepper encrusted beef was delicious. My husband had the barramundi and he said that while very tasty he was glad he ordered extra salad as it was a small serving. I have to say the focaccia is to die for and I’d go back again just to have a whole one to myself. I’d like to try the fixed dégustation and wine pairing menu sometime. Four and a half stars. Returned recently September 2022 Still a busy, stylish restaurant with prices that reflect this. Apart from the 'beef strip' main meal the remaining meals were very small portions and the sides of beans and potatoes were enough for four not eight! The focaccia remains 'the best'! Several of our party of eight were still hungry at the end of the meal! Order more sides and bread!!!
One of the best fine dining experiences in Canberra. The food is always fresh and fabulous. The staff polite and accommodating. It’s where you go for a lovely, special night out, to eat real food without stuffiness or pretentious. One of our favorite restaurants.
We have found our "Go To" Italian restaurant in Canberra. Impeccable service, wonderful surroundings, a truly amazing wine list and a menu that showcases the best ingredients, prepared and presented in classic Italian style. Truly food to savour and an experience to remember.
The food was delicious and the female waitress was very polite but the behaviour of the owner was disgusting. We were told that having a group of 8 people was not optimal for him and he was losing money with such a large group. I will be giving my business to the small family restaurant around the corner now. His words were, "I would've preferred you all not come, I could've turned that table around a number of times. No meal is worth that kind of treatment.
I recently visited Mezzalira and had a wonderful dining experience. The restaurant has a cozy and inviting atmosphere, and the service was top-notch. One of the standout dishes was the Fish of the Day, which was cooked to perfection and had a delicious flavor. I also tried the Tiramisu for dessert, and it was heavenly - creamy and full of flavor. Overall, I highly recommend Mezzalira for anyone looking for a great Italian dining experience in Canberra City. The food, service, and atmosphere are all top-notch, and I can't wait to visit again.
