This is not a resort.nIt is a perfect apartment building.nWalking distance to one of the best croquet clubs in South East Queensland.nThe sauna is well looked after and smells devine.nThe lap pool is cool enough.nThe outdoor pool is salt water and is heated perfectly for a winter swim.nSuch a perfect place to rest and restore while playing in a croquet tournament.
The Ocean Front rooms are directly above Gold Coast Highway, and even on the 38th floor the supposed “double glazing” does very little: high-powered motorbikes whining, hoons racing their sports cars, jackhammers all day and night, and a train rattling and squeaking past at all hours.nnI'd come up from Sydney to escape construction noise 150 m away at home, and ended up being forced to catch an Uber to work in the public library every day, despite paying for five-star hotel accommodation in Southport.nnI've stayed with Meriton over a hundred times and generally loved the chain, which is why I'm so disappointed with Meriton Gold Coast.nnI booked a waterfront room at Meriton Southport for more than two months, purely to work, and my real problem wasn't even the noise — it was how one manager handled it.nnThe day I arrived I asked to have a look at a back room, thinking I'd move — a considerable downgrade from the waterfront room, which I was happy to accept if it gave me adequate conditions to work in. The manager was extraordinarily abrasive and belittling, and insisted it was just as noisy out the back, which simply isn't true, given the front is directly above Gold Coast Highway and the back isn't.nnWhen I asked for a few minutes to sit in a room and check before committing to a two-month booking, she refused and bullied me into deciding on the spot, despite an obvious 60 day plus booking. She also claimed Meriton never shows guests rooms — yet staff at three other Meriton properties have spent considerable time showing me half a dozen rooms in one go, so that's simply untrue. Every time I've asked her about moving since, she's belittled and essentially attacked me again, in front of other staff.nnEvery other staff member here has been helpful and professional, three were even very nice and friendly to deal with. This one manager completely ruined my stay and nearly cost Meriton a 60- or even 90-day booking from a loyal customer. All I'm asking is about ten minutes in one of the 01-series rooms on a very high floor, to make sure staying at Meriton is the right move for me. Can someone other than the supposed manager of this place help me, please?
Pros- It's very near the tram station and the park. My room had nice views of the water. The kitchen was sufficiently supplied.nCons- The sheets on my bed was covered in hair. Not just one or two strands- it was COVERED in it. There was so much hair that I had to ask housekeeping to bring me new sheets. It was like a man had shaved and scattered his hair trimmings all over the sheets. I can't imagine housekeeping didn't notice this when they were making the bed. Given that the majority of the hair was towards the bottom end of the bed, it makes me wonder if they put the sheets on that way intentionally with the hope that the guest won't notice if they only pull the covers back partway. Regardless of whether this was intentional or not, it was gross and unacceptable. I didn't even get an apology when I told the front staff about this.nSecond con- no wifi for the first two days. There was very spotty wifi at night but none when I checked in or the next day. I only had wifi on the third day.nThird con- There are few restaurants and cafes within walking distance. There are only two cafes close enough for breakfast, and they were really busy with all the hotel guests the hotel does not have it's own dining and the race participants I was there during the Gold Coast Marathon. This is not the hotel's fault, but I won't stay in this area again.
Room was great, spacious, view, kitchen was so convenient for the 5 days we stayed. Local shops, eateries & Woollies downstairs, very convenient. I cooked in the kitchen in our room every night, was easy & covenient to have the tools available pots, pans, trays, cutlerys etcnBeach near & Australia fair shopping centre, trams, as well as great park for kids, family bbq etc.nPrice wise, for the view & comfort away from home will try the pool, gym, sauna etc on next staynn4 stars on the service for the 1st girl i dealt with, she was a little passive aggressive for my liking, even asked, have you ever stayed at the meriton before with a judging face then 'Why did you choose this hotel' ?nWas she doing surveys on check in?‍ive worked as a A hotel concierge & that is definitely not one of the questions you ask.
We were attending the WPGA golf. Very mixed experience at Meriton Southport. Location is ok for the tram to Surfers but not right on the beach. Underground parking is shared with Woolies but lower ground is less busy. We’d booked an ocean view room but were given a hinterland view. After a chat with reception, we were given a much better room facing west up the coast. We had a balcony room because we like to be able to open doors and windows. It was fine until the people below used their balcony 24/7 so we had to close our windows and doors due to the incessant drongo talk and spliff smoking from below. Rooms are well kitted-out, comfy beds, wonderful pillows. After 3 days, we had had no housekeeping service. We had to ask twice for fresh towels etc. There were also no pool towels. The biggest problem in this place is the lifts. There are 55 floors, 6 lifts but only 2 lifts were working, so you spend 5-10 mins hanging about trying to get in and out. There was a triathlon on when we were staying so the 2 lifts were jam packed with bikes etc. Total nightmare. Our friends were staying at the Intercon - v nice and our other friends were staying at Oceana at Broad Beach - also worth looking at. The Meriton doesn’t seem to be very well managed. Disappointing.
