Korean BBQ joint that's been around for many years now. The meat cuts are tender and marinated beautifully. Kimchi pancakes are on the lighter side. Not recommending the beef rib soup as the meat was tough and soup was bland. Portion is small for the price and quality you paying. Food - 7 Service - 7 Vibe - 7
Hwaro is a place that would've been top tier a few years ago when there was not as much competition, but now it is just average in my opinion. The atmosphere is very thick, by that I mean there is a lot of smoke. I was surprised because they do have smoke exhaust at every table. The meats are decent quality but the servers cooking for us have a little bit of trouble handling all the tables and some meats are slightly burnt. There is a lot of competition in korean bbq around Melbourne now and it needs some changes to be the best around.
I went here for my 20th birthday! Greeted with a lovely smile and humour, shown to my table and they surprised me with a soju cocktail that tasted floral and sweet, truly one of the best cocktails yet. Now for the meal, we got the mixed lamb and pork set I believe and the gentleman showed us how to cook it properly and how to make the most out of our experience. The meat would melt in your mouth, the veggies were a perfect addition and all for an incredibly reasonable price! Best birthday dinner I’ve ever had, please come here!!
Food was good but I wanted to complain about their services. We were a group of 13 and even though we had booked it a day before, they just gave us a table for 10 and all the requests we made, most of them ignored.
Hwaro Korean BBQ was okay being honest you could find better and bigger portions sizes than this place, it was abit over priced for the portions youre getting. The customer service could've been abit better had to ask to get something 2 times before I could get any.
Definitely one of the better Korean BBQ places I’ve tried in Melbourne CBD. This place is a bit more expensive than your typical kbbq joint but the food is very high quality! Between 3 people, we got the Hwaro set for 2, budae jigae soup, seafood pancake, and bibimbap. The set had a really good variety of different meats and marinades, and was plenty to share between 2-3. But the surprising highlight for us was the kimchi bibimbap! The sauce was so delicious, spicy and sweet, and it’s served in a stone bowl which gives the rice a nice char. Absolute must try here! Definitely try their flavoured rice wine too. We had the strawberry rice wine which was sweet and pleasant, more like juice than alcohol. Overall a really great experience!
Hwaro is an alright KBBQ in the CBD. I found the food quality was good, however, the price was quite expensive. For the same price, I feel like there's definitely better quality around the city. Although the atmosphere and set up of the restaurant is quite nice, we felt it was hard to get the waiters attention. There were a few times where our grill did not heat up, so despite having the meat around. We weren't able to cook. I recommend you give it a try and form an opinion for yourself. It's an ok KBBQ.
Be aware that this place is pretty pricey for what you get. The serving portion is very small and less variety of side dishes compared to other Korean BBQ place. Even the small miso soup in the picture you normally receive as a part of meal costs you $19. Meat was delicious but they really need to up their game if they want to have their diners return as there are so many other Korean BBQ places around the area that offer better deals and service.
Bad service. The food is OK. I had better Korean BBQ before. Not coming back. Spend your money somewhere else. I feel the people who work there do not really want to work there. Rude.
Amazing food, exceptional beef and perfectly crispy kimchi and seafood pancakes! The service and staff were fantastic. Only downside being that there wasn’t a parents/baby change room so plan ahead if you have little ones. Would go back again!
