They never answer phone calls. Good luck going here if you value communications because they ignore the phone to play video games
MDS is a good school, but I cannot say it is the perfect school like many wants to say. I have learned a lot during my time here, the staff and the majority of the teachers are amazing and will do their best to help the students in difficulty. Overhaul the lessons and skills taught are good quality. However, the MDS administration seems to be overwhelm at time, and papers can get lost. A classmate received the wrong schedules from the school and missed two weeks because he was still abroad. I received a letter saying I did not renewed my re enrolment form despite the fact that I filled it on campus and gave it to them directly in their office. Some assignments receive wrong due dates or wrong criteria. Some issues with softwares and computers too. The majority of teachers are really good in their domain and help a lot. But some teachers luckily just a few do not share their vision. There is a teacher, very talented and have an amazing background. However, he cannot hide that he is annoyed that students ask him to repeat or slow down, with the cliché "pay attention I'm not going to repeat" as his favorite response. As an international student, paying 40.000$ a year and having to ask youtube for answers because the teacher don't want to repeat is really frustrating. That teacher also promote competition among students, publicly rewarding the best while shaming the losers. The crunch is terrible, some students ended at the hospital because of the pressure, while I luckily avoided that fate, I had to attend to multiple phycology sessions and had to take medication to cope with it. The school have counselors and I believe it's a good thing, and helped me a lot. My final point which is not a good one, is the display of a female teacher which in my opinion should not be a teacher at all, and she is still operating at MDS. She already have a bad reputation among her students. But what really disgusted me was when she verbally attacked a student for having a low attendance to her class. That student was on wheelchair, missing a leg and an illness in it's terminal phase. But it didn't protected him from her having the audacity to say word for word "Are you going to get it under control or what ?" complaining that he still should attend to her class, even if he was recovering from chemotherapies. That student sadly passed away later that year. No matter how many photos of her with that student was taken, this is something that cannot be covered up, and I hope she will change her behavior and stop abusing her students. Overhaul, I have learned critical skills at MDS. There was tears of sadness but also tears of joy. Despite some flaws, I still believe that school can share knowledge of quality to its students. Edit: I have been almost a year now, I am still without a piece of paper saying I completed anything because we are still waiting for the "graduation day" and the school have been very dismissive if I could get it.
My grandson went here, can't believe he wasted his time to get a 'degree' that cost as much as it would from a real tertiary institution! He came out with less knowledge than my granddaughter who's only be at Auckland University for 1.5 years!! Disgraceful!!
I had high hopes for getting employment through mds...getting the best of my work in one year study and at the end day when we had to showcase our work..it was all about drinks and eat...no people from any companies visited who can look up to our work ..at the end we wer just left to our own ..and no help was provided for finding employment by college , because we opted for a one year course..had to return to my own country and worked my way off to getting employed with a 2 year struggle, in the end its all ABT money nothing's left in education.
I attended the BCT Game Art course of which seemed structured in the beginning. However further into the years lecturers left, courses were scrambled, software issues, computer issues, degrading in quality of papers. Things are not what they are put out to be. If you want a degree that is easy and requires little to no skill to pass and want a job, people skills are all you need because out of 100 odd art students 20-30 made it to 3rd year, of which maybe 5-7 landed jobs in studios. they won't disclose actual statistics to save their beacon.
Really overpriced institute. Most of the learning material is copy pasted from the internet. Really don't recommend if you want to better yourself in your career. Everything they teach you here, you can learn from searching online and free courses.
NZ's mort awarded design and technology school. Nurturing work-ready graduates. Highly recommended.
One of the best place to study if you are really into graphic design, animation and 3d modeling.
finished uni for more than a year now still waiting to be officially graduated.
