The 12-hour, slow-cooked lamb pie was delicious! Set out amongst the vineyards, this place makes a great lunchtime option. Local wines and produce make up the menu and a magnificent sun-deck overlooks the rural landscape. It is pet-friendly, likely not by design, but the owner was very accommodating. Highly recommended.
Delicious food! Incredible service!! Great location. Awesome views!!! We made a group booking for an 80th birthday party and took the entire Restaurant. We changed the layout both internal and external at the last minute. We added an extra table due to last minute unexpected arrivals and with 53 meals nothing was too much trouble and all went like clockwork. Lana and staff were incredible and I cannot speak highly enough of the trouble they went to to make our experience a special one. If you are looking for a top notch group booking venue for a Function or Party for family or staff McVitty Grove Cafe and Restaurant are as good as it gets on the Southern Highlands.
Fantastic! We stopped in here for lunch and really enjoyed the food, atmosphere & the local wine. Definitely worth a visit
What a wonderful find. Definitely worth a visit. The view from the restaurant and balcony are both spectacular. My husband had the lamb special which was lamb two ways and I had the lamb rump salad. Both were generous portions for lunch and very tasty. We tasted their wines the pinot gris was a little sweet but surprisingly nice I prefer dry wine. It was so relaxing. Love the cows the best. Five stars.
Wonderful little cafe/cellar door. It comes with the opportunity to sit and take in pristine landscape views whilst partaking in their lovely produce. Would recommend the Chardonnay as interstingly unique and the Shiraz has one of the fruitiest berry components I have encountered.
Mother's Day lunch today was a total disappointment. Set menu, bookings only and it still took 2.5 hours to eat three meals. We waited over an hour for mains, which were very underwhelming. We then we were rushed through dessert and not offered tea or coffee because they had booked our table for 2.30 and the guests had arrived! We ordered straight away when we got there for all three courses, when you have a set menu, with pre-determined numbers, there is no excuse for such a long wait. The waitstaff tried their hardest, but were completely run off their feet. Table water was not refilled and my brother had to get his own from the bathroom! Came time to pay and the eftpos machine wouldn't connect to the internet. Very disappointing, hopefully things improve but we won't be rushing back to check any time soon.
APPALLING Service: Lucky for the view My girlfriends and I had lunch over the weekend at McVitty’s. We were unavoidably late by about 15 minutes and we rang them to tell that this was the case. We had booked for 9, but had a late minute cancellation which left 8 of us for the booking. When we got there, the wait-staff who were clearly very junior and inexperienced took a while to take our drinks order in fact we had to ask them, which was fine as we were there for a nice “girlie” lunch and weren’t in any hurry. Once we ordered our drinks, we waited again for them to be served to us again I had to ask for the bottle of wine to be brought to our table. Again, no big deal, everyone has to start somewhere and learn. Then Phillip part owner came to serve our meals, and he asked if we were expecting the 9th person, to which I say no, we had had a cancellation – And this is where the APPALLING SERVICE BEGUN. He, quite offensively, said “We’ll it would have been nice if you told us this as we could have given your table away”. I must add here, it was a 9th seat at the head of table set for 8 that we were fully occupying. I was very taken back by his rudeness and decided to speak to him at the end of our $500 dollar lunch. To which his response was “well I think you were treated very well considering we could have given your seat away for an extra $300” again I’m not sure how this would be possible in a 15 min gap and one lone seat, plus there were spare tables in the restaurant when were dining. He then went onto to defend his poor behaviour and offered no apology or even the slightest bit of accountability. The interesting thing after this was, we mentioned our experience to many wineries/ cafes throughout our weekend and his reputation for “Basil from Faulty Towers” was alive and well and many people made the comment “It’s clear he doesn’t like to serve people, and he is terrible at it. So why own a restaurant?” And I fully agree with them all! In an age when return business and competitor differentiation is critical – We all deserve to be treated better than this! It’s be my last trip to McVitty’s ever, and Philip if I treated my clients like this – my business would be non-existent [Maybe something to consider]
Beautiful spot for lunch, with great views. I've been here a couple of times and the food has never failed to impress, with good selection of wines too.
Excellent experience. Tasted superb wines then ate the most delicious lunch. Lovely service. Top location. Spoil yourself, I did.
Was really looking forward to this place for lunch but arrived at the time of our booking to find the place completely shut. No call or email or sign to let us know that anything had happened/changed. Very disappointed. Since posting this the owner has been in touch and apologised for the mix up so have amended my rating.
