We love the Matuku Takotako library. Great selection of books, kids toys and bathroom facilities. Fabulous space to rent for functions, awesome storytime for the little ones. Super friendly and helpful staff. It feels like a very central, and much loved community space.
This is not your traditional library; there aren't too many spaces to get lost in or find a reprieve of peace and quiet. The nearby hills will tick those boxes for you if you seek that. However, what you will find is a modern twist on what libraries are becoming—lively spaces where children can play and explore, and people can chat while looking for a good read. I've thoroughly enjoyed coming here because of the staff and the spaces they provide for people, and now as a result, this library has become our local.
Not really a quiet study space - there's too much activity and the staff seem to always be talking, especially this one guy. And there's a lot of comings and goings, kids etc. So kinda hard to do something like concentrate on reading or work on your writing.nGreat selection of books though, and the staff are friendly and helpful. I guess if it's the traditional quiet of a library you're after, Turanga isn't too far away.
The building serves as a community center, Sumner museum, and a library. The building is newer 2016 and has nice light and an open floor plan. As there is an open floor plan the library can be quite loud if there's an event happening on the second floor or just in general with kids running around talking and yelling. In comparison to other libraries, this is not a very quiet one. Other than the noise level - a nice place to relax.
This is a great little library. Good selection of genres in the book shelves and really helpful staff. They've also got a computer bay, open to the public, which you can use to put together a powerpoint, word doc, excel spreadsheet etc. Tip: take a usb stick with you because the computer sessions last half an hour at a time and you have to keep logging in. Overall, a really great service.
