Our party of 4 dined at 1:00 on a Friday. We had booked a table and there was also a large group nearby, but there were some tables available.nnFrom the outset, I knew that this was going to be special. The setting was quaint and comfortable and we were greeted warmly. The staff were attentive and friendly right through our time here.nnThe menu was next level, with a broad range of expertly curated offerings, with seafood being the obvious star. The drinks menu perfectly countered and balanced the food offerings.nnMy beautiful wife ordered the baked salmon and it was cooked sublimely, with the flavours not overpowering the salmon and it retaining its firmness. I had the seafood risotto and from the first bite it was a religious experience.nnWe were then brought out the desserts on offer on a plate so that we could SEE them. This was a wonderful touch. My chocolate cake with cream and ice cream was divine. The chocolate flavour was deep, without being overpowering and the ice cream had a luxurious air. Our coffees were also top tier.nnThe bill was well within the reasonable range.nnJust go there.
We absolutely love coming to Marinara. You step inside and it truly feels so warm and inviting. The food is consistently delicious, always hitting the spot. The staff is always so lovely and friendly.nI love how they beautifully display their dessert menu, but I just can’t resist their incredible tiramisu, irresistible . We can't wait to return again and again.
The manager seriously needs to emphasise fair treatment and customer service.nnMy first visit was for my best friend’s birthday celebration. We booked a table a week in advance and were genuinely excited. However, when we arrived, we were assigned to an outdoor corner table during winter, it was absolutely freezing. We politely asked if we could move indoors, and the staff responded by saying we should have requested it during the booking. The problem is, it was our first time visiting and nobody mentioned there were indoor or outdoor seating options when taking the reservation over the phone. We were honestly baffled.nnAfter the staff ran back and forth checking, they finally moved us to another area in the next shop that smelled strongly of carpet and dust. It felt old, neglected, and was hidden deep in the back corner of the restaurant where nobody else was seated. It was just the two of us there, completely isolated. Honestly, I doubt anyone would be happy being seated like that at that price point. Thankfully, after requesting again, we were eventually given a normal table.nnThat experience already left a bad impression.nnWe decided to give the place another chance for a second visit. This time, my boyfriend and I called ahead before walking in to confirm table availability. Yet again, we were assigned to a tiny outdoor table squeezed near the walkway beside the neighbouring shop, with people constantly walking up and down past us. It was a Monday night and there were still several empty tables inside the restaurant.nnAtp I started wondering if we were just unlucky. I later spoke to a friend and she had a very similar experience as well; three people were squeezed into a tiny table while local customers were given much more comfortable seating. It honestly made me question whether Asian customers are intentionally given the worst tables.nnNo matter how good the food or atmosphere may be, service and treatment still matter.
nnUnfortunately, my wife and her two girlfriend’s experience at Marinara Paddington last night was a little disappointing.nnThey started dining at around 5:30pm. The food was okay, although we found it a little under-seasoned. The bigger issue for us was the service and how welcome we felt.nnAt around 7:10pm, after finishing the mains, the waiter actually brought the cake board over to their table so they could choose some desserts. While they we’re in the middle of deciding what to order, the waiter then said, “You realise you only have 15 minutes before your booking is finished.”nnThey were a little taken aback, especially considering he had just brought the dessert board over for them to order from. When they asked if there was any chance they could stay a little longer to enjoy dessert, they were told they “might be able to move them to another table.”nnThe whole interaction made them feel like ordering dessert and staying a little longer was an inconvenience rather than something they wanted to accommodate, so they decided not to order dessert and went elsewhere instead.nnWhat made it even more disappointing was that when they left at around 7:30pm, roughly two-thirds of the restaurant was empty and it looked like the team was already preparing to close. It really left them with the impression that they were more interested in getting us out than having us stay and enjoy the rest of our evening.nnEven getting water for the table seemed like an inconvenience for the male waiter throughout the evening.nnThe food itself wasn’t bad, but hospitality is also about making customers feel welcome. Unfortunately, on this occasion, we definitely didn’t feel particularly welcome and left disappointed with the overall experience.
This place is so beautifully decorated and has such a homely feel, even if the food is a little bit on the expensive side. The carbonara was a classic done quite well - the creaminess of the sauce was balanced out by the saltiness of the bacon bits. The cannelloni was served piping hot and really hearty, it tasted quite homemade and authentic.
