Went on a Saturday 6:30pm. Pre-booked signature dish spicy deep fried quail tasted amazing 5/5 - 1 bird per person is ideal qty if ordering with other dishes. Balado sauce deep fried barramundi 4/5 - Fish was fresh and tasted great, mildly spicy. Sweet and sour pork 5/5 - Crunchy and one of best tasted so far. Mongolian beef 3/5 - Tasted OK. Sambal long bean 4/5 - Bean was crunchy and sambal tasted OK. XO sauce prawn with shell and thin egg noodle was a disappointment 2/5 - prawns weren't the freshest and noodle was soggy. Service was 1/5 due to waitress not wanting to communicate and slow service. Food took about 30 min to arrive. Last dish another 15 min. Restaurant ambience was typical of a family owned Chinese restaurant. If service is important, do not pick this place. For great food, I would come back again for other dishes.
A once a year CNY gathering with a group of friends and their kids. A family friend recommended this restaurant whom they have eaten twice. Service & Ambience [3] we have a large group of 15 and unfortunately there isnt a table large enough to sit everyone comfortably yeah we have to sit almost shoulder to shoulder. Staff were quick to respond to our request but when asking for bill, not sure what's taking a while. Food [3.5] we tried their popular fried quails and ordered two flavours another one with chilli both are great. The steam fish was fresh. The kang kong veg was also good. Others are so so and felt this restaurant serve food with unique taste, hence the name of the restaurant which translates in English means " A different taste".
It was a choice of restaurant we had to have due to transport and timing. We wanted to walk back out upon entering a very noisy restaurant ! It turned out the noise was coming from just a table of nine! The staff were simply too busy to serve! It turned out they are short of waiter/waitress. We ordered their signature dish quail, steamed barramundi, seafood tofu, and spicy egg plant. Unlike the chaotic atmosphere, the food were surprisingly nice! We even met the owner Peter Han. He shared the story of the origin of the name Marbrown with us! It was genuine and gave us a hearty laugh! We like what he stands for! He even told us to book our favourite dishes ahead of time as some traditional dishes need preparation. We will definitely back!
Always good food at Ma Brown. Love the quails and other dishes. Photos taken after we got stuck into the meal . Will be back. I have been going to Ma Brown for more years than I want to say, and the food has been consistently good. May and her husband run the business since it started, with May at the counter and her husband on the kitchen, plus other staff members. Service is not the quickest, so if you are in for a quick meal, this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for good, delicious, authentic Malaysian Chinese style food, this is the place to come. The quails never disappoint, and we always get both the spicy and the non-spicy salt & pepper quail to start off the meal. The seaweed salad entree is also good. Another speciality is pork trotters though this will need to be ordered well in advance. Try the sambal kangkong or sambal beans, though I do ask for it to be less spicy. We also had the fried fish, beef and kai lan, mushroom with veges, mapo tofu. Overall a good meal, but it was not the quickest of meals. Good place to come with family and friends for a holiday time out. It is also BYO.
We heard a hype about the Quails. They are good but not fantastic. You can add many different types of sauces on them. I recommend plain but the special Mabrown sauce seems to be the favourite so we tried it. We also had ma po tau fu and chicken ribs. The chicken ribs were a lot crispier and more to my liking compared to the quail. It could be just me? Best to check prices online and confirm prices when taking away as the owner or boss lady said the website price is outdated. We take away so the quail could be less crispy when we had it so I would recommend dining in.
The best quail & steamed fish in Australia! Must try! Love it! Thank you!
Great Chinese food especially the quails which is the signature dish. I like the regular. The spicy one are too hot for me. The rest of dishes are yummy too. Price is very reasonable A bit under staff but when you got good food who cares
Pre-order the spicy quails, XO prawn with shells with extra noodles, and a Yong Tofu. Seems like the spicy quail is the signature dishes of the restaurant. Food are tasty I like the Tofu the most, but overall is quite salty and I feel super thirty afterwards. Busy restaurant so do not except too much from the staff.
Lady looks rude but after a few jokes she is very funny and nice. Not special about the spicy quail. Overall the food is nice
The food quality is far below average; anyone can cook a bit better than the chef. Everything served is salty with too much MSG. I wouldn’t go there again.
