Lemongrass, 8-Time Winner - Best Thai, celebrates 30 years since we first introduced Royal Cuisine. We faithfully continue ancient Thai cooking techniques
Lemongrass opened in 1989 with a team of 4 chefs from the Bussaracum in Bangkok and with the support of our mentor Royal Cuisine High Priestess Boonchoo, then 78 years old. We were the first Thai in Lygon Street and in Carlton and also the first to introduce many new Thai dishes. Acharn (Grand Lady) Boonchoo was a teacher of the Royal style in the University and also the Executive Chef of the Royal Cuisine restaurant the Bussaracum. She also taught cooking in the Thai Royal Palace. Her daughter Ancharee and two granddaughters are also chefs. One served at Lemongrass and the other at the Brunei Royal Palace. Acharn Boonchoo passed away several years ago but we maintain close relations with and consult regularly with her daughter and granddaughter.
Lemongrass is a seven-time winner of Best Thai
restaurant. We continue to adhere faithfully to Acharn's techniques, recipes and secrets.
We are also proud to announce that this year we anticipate the return of Chatchulee to the Lemongrass kitchen! After several years of international postings including St. Petersberg (granddaughter) Chatchulee has her sights set on Lemongrass again. We can't wait to welcome her back!
At Lemongrass we make everything fresh from scratch using traditional methods. You will not see canned pastes or msg. The result is flavoursome aromatic food from curries to grilled satays and satay sauce to soups and stir-fries - everything. This is why everyday our customers tell us the food is simply amazing. Comments like "that was the best ___" are commonplace in Lemongrass..
