I presented to the emergency department on Sunday night and had low expectations based on what I’d heard in the media. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience. It was reasonably busy but I was quickly CT scanned and diagnosed with appendicitis. I was allocated a bed in the short stay unit within a few hours of being diagnosed and kept updated while I waited. Surgery was the next day. The doctor in ED was very friendly and caring, as were the nursing staff on the ward. I can’t say a bad word about the staff and feel privileged to have access to this kind of service for free. The hospital was clean and all staff were very helpful and kind. So far the follow-up care has been good too.
I recently spent a week here after having my Appendix removed, staff was great, nurses went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. I have no complaints about how I was treated, even when I have landed in Emergency on previous occasions.
Absolutely incompetent. No work ethic in the emergency department. Twice we have taken our 1 year old son there with 40+ degree temp. First time put on some sort of fast list. Waited two hours. Went back to the triage and they never even put his details or information to say we were there...offered an icy pole to try cool his temperature. And still never got to see a doctor. Everyone who came in after us was seen to . All the nurses and who ever else was in the triage area were just talking and laughing like they were having a get to get her. Needs to be regulated with some sort of Forman or someone to tell them to do there job
If your ur having something done make sure there's a senior nurse there to do it not the trainees or younger girls. Had 1 women laughing with coworkers outside the bedroom and asking for help to check a canula then coming back in without help looking nervous and makes me feel ultra nervous. Apart from that kind people and very nice.
I have had too many instances of incompetence to list but it includes excessive waiting times for appointments with specialists, arrogant and inconsistent specialists, loss of files, forgotten reviews, grumpy female radiologist trying to blame me for emergency admission staff error. I have lost total confidence in LGH management and feel like my life doesn't matter to them, I'm just a file number not a person! I could write more but it makes my depression even worse thinking about dealing with the LGH! Update:I just got a phone call from the Physiotherapy Department asking me why I didn't turn up for an appointment I had today that I cancelled yesterday citing incompetence! UNBELIEVABLE!!
Due to a severe abdominal pain, I was admitted to emergency, on 15th July @ 3.45 am. Service from Nurses and Doctors were unbelievable. Just like in a private hospital. Surgeon, Dr. Nicholas had a look by 7 am. 10 am I was in theatre. Dr. Murray and The Team took good care of myself. Post surgery recovery at level 5, awesome. Such a nice bunch of people in medical practice. Hats off to you Dear Ladies and Gentlemen.
Upon my discharge my Dr tried to tell me that my thyroiditis confirmed via ultrasound imaging with my GP was anxiety and that I couldn't have thyroiditis because my thyroid blood panel was normal DESPITE me telling her it was confirmed by my dr... I was then told that I couldn't have thyroiditis because I had trouble swallowing and it doesn't cause trouble swallowing and that it is physically impossible because there is cartilage between the thyroid and oesophagus, if only they used google instead of giving false information they would know what is the main symptom. I was then told by 2 different dr's that they suspected that I had MS, despite having a recent brain scan coming back normal, when I told them that they pushed that I had anxiety. Upon discharge my dr kept pushing "anxiety" for a suspected heart condition I have been following up with a cardiologist. I said "anxiety doesn't cause tachycardia only upon exertion it causes symptoms when anxious." and she replied "uhhhh uhm anxiety is a STRANGE BEAST", took my cannula out and whilst I was crying because I was being discharged after almost passing out multiple times in the ER with 0 help she walked out and said "have a good sleep tonight" even whilst seeing me crying..... I was then left with the dr underneath her having to finish up all of the paperwork whilst I am bawling my eyes out and hyperventilating because I am being sent home after being bedridden and almost losing consciousness multiple times a day. The dr before changeover was trying to get me a bed as was the next dr but once he spoke to his superior the one that pushed anxiety and MS onto me they were just trying to convince me to leave and despite me saying I did not feel comfortable going home they hushed me out the door and said "sorry" whilst I was having a breakdown in the waiting room and was told that if I lose consciousness to come back but they probably won't be able to help me in the ER. Funny thing you lose consciousness but the ER is apparently not the place to find help? I am disgusted by that lady, trying to feed me false information about a medical condition she clearly knows nothing about and tell me I have something like MS and then immediately changes it to anxiety because she has absolutely no idea what is going on with me. Worst hospital in Australia.
Currently in The Launceston General Hospital ward 6D and will be discharge today "Fingers Crossed" The team at the LGH are awesome! They're very professional and caring. Always have high standards when it comes to nurturing the patients. We have a excellent medical team who goes the extra length to make sure their patients are receiving the proper care, to help them recover from illnesses etc . The medical staff go way unnoticed and deserve more recognition for the amazing work they do !!! A big thank you the the staff on Ward 6D, you guys have been amazing and helped me a lot with my recovery and I can not thank you lot enough!!!
Emily the nurse at the LGH, was the only one who could calm me down and generally had a duty of care for me!! She's beautiful
The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Confidence is not inspired here. I was totally misdiagnosed, and had anything I had to say dismissed, or ignored, and they didn't do as they said they would in consulting my wife for further information. They're more interested in giving you unnecessary pills, fobbing you off, and getting rid of you, than actually taking the time to work out what the issue is, if it's not the obvious. Way understaffed, underfunded, and inadequate for the task it's asked to do. A political football.
