Food: 3/5 The go to stuff here is the laksa, which use to be super super good for taste and value. Now the price has gone up a bit, so it's still good, but the value for price is average compared to other restaurants. The Malaysian chicken egg noodles and chicken rice was average. Service: 3/5 Quick and fast service. The water is self served Atmosphere: 3/5 Nice interior decorations and comfy seatings for arm chairs. They do have stools with backs however when out of chairs Overall will come back occasionally if nearby
Lately have been craving water spinach and lot of place ran out, think maybe not in season. But Kreta Ayer got them and they are soooo delicious! I wiped the plate clean! The fish is giant and very worthy of the price, the sauce is good but a little too sweet to our taste but that’s just personal preference. The spicy beef brisket was terrible tho, the beef is so dry and chewy and the sauce taste bad too. But overall we enjoy the meal, strongly recommending the water spinach to every kangkung lover!
Decent food. Ok service Hainan chicken rice is okay - chicken could be more tender and rice is a bit hard - could be cooked longer. The combination laksa is a good portion and comes with prawns, tofu, meatball, dumpling, chicken. Costs about $18 each. Hot soya drink was delicious sweet and very hot. Fair number of tables inside. Service is quick although have to ask for water a few times.
I’m a visitor from Melbourne and was recommended this place for CKT while I was dining at Westfield food hall 2 days ago by a fellow Singaporean I met. So I came here with high expectation. Unfortunately the dining experience did not live up to my expectation. In my opinion, the CKT was mediocre at best. It was neither cooked with blood clams nor lard cubes. The egg was overdone. My friend ordered rendang nasi lemak and he thought it was less than average. The beef cubes were cut into too small a pieces, which made them dry and tough. I sampled a spoon of my friend’s coconut rice and it was just tasteless. We have had cheaper and tastier Singapore hawker food in Melbourne CBD and Doncaster.
Ordered mud crab+ mantous, Nasi Goreng and belacan KangKung. Mud Crab plating looked really promising. Sauce test - sauce was spicy with a decent kick but not too much, had a good eggy consistency for the mantous. Unfortunately crab meat didn't taste fresh, bit stale , wasn't plump or juicy as expected. $95/kg + $8 for 3 mantous ain't a bargain either. Nasi Goreng was too tomatoee, no wok hei and quite bland. KangKung was, fresh and produce had a good crunch as fresh kangkung should be Service was a bit sleepy - wasn't sharp or finesses, they missed an order and we had to prompt for Table Water. Overall 2.5/5 - just ok can be improved
Ordered a chilli fried fish and a pan fried oyster omelette. Great plating of the fish and egg. Everything was flavourful, balanced and yummy. Would order the fish again
Hor fun was 5/5. Everything was really delicious although the laksa was a bit too watery for my liking. Overall delicious food & quick service. Reminiscent of food back in Singapore/Malaysia. Will definitely come back to try other dishes.
Such great prices for a delicious variety of seafood and veggie dishes! Highly recommend the hainan chicken, scallops, kangkong, spicy prawns and kumquat ice tea!
The best Cha Kwe Teow in SYDNEY. Growing up in M’sia Cha Kwe Teow stir fried flat noodle is a dish you have, wherever you go! Especially during supper time, at the hawker stall. I have been looking for a good Kwe Teow stir fried for awhile now, most of them lacking the Wok flavourdue to inadequate of heat/low flame. Other dishes like the Cereal Prawn and Laksa is good too.
Ordered Nasi Lemak. I'm sorry but cannot recommend this restaurant. We got soggy anchovies, oily and watery beef rendang. They used salty normal peanuts that from the supermarkets but bot the authentic peanuts with skin. Unfortunately I could only eat the rice and the cucumber.
