Sometimes the service seems offhand but really they do a great job of casual, friendly service. Menu has gems and they will try hard to help you out. Winter or summer, this is a cool place to go. Love the opening hours. Good work team.

The cafe ticks so many boxes. Outside seating that as well as traditional tables also has bean bags out on a grassed area. A view of the city over the small lake in the front.Some good background music, loud enough to enjoy and still allow friendly conversation. The savoury muffin was really tasty.

I was watching a cool band at St Johns Bar outside on a nice sunny day a few weeks back. There was music coming from Karaka Cafe too (some pre-recorded NZ reggae), which is absolutely fine, but it got louder and louder until it was pretty much drowning out the band. Stink one! Tolerance is a good thing....

A great little spot overlooking the water to grab a light meal and have a drink or two. The meals were delicious, I can highly recommend the baked Brie, and inexpensive. The cafe also provides bean bags and mats which you can take to sit out on the grass by the water if you’d rather that than sit at a table.
