I'm from Kerala, and alas, this was beyond disappointing. The Kerala roast chicken curry tasted toxic. My Dutch friend ordered a butter chicken that was awful. We both had two mouthfuls and abandoned our meals - it was that bad. The explanation given? The head chef was away the previous week but had just returned. He was using the "base" curry prepared by the temporary chef - so much for freshness. Please don't waste your money on this establishment - it is an embarrassing representation of Kerala cuisine.
Best authentic Kerala restaurant in town!! Tasty food and worth the money spent. Quantity was also generous! Miss similar restaurants in Melbourne except Coconut Lagoon which is almost 1hr drive from our place
Google helps customers find the details about the timings of your restaurant. So I'd advise you to keep updating it whenever your timings changes. It will be helpful for customers.
On the festive occasion of Onam, was looking forward to their annual Onam Sadya. - food was ok. I won’t complain on that point. But they were very short in providing the food quantity especially for $29 per person. Service was absolutely non existent and the argument was that they were too tired. I understand that, but then either have more staff or cater according to the capabilities. The owners were uninterested and would rather spend time arguing then providing quality service. Sadya has over 25 items. We would be lucky if we got 10-12. This is the first time I heard that there won’t be any rice and curd for a traditional Kerala meal. Wouldn’t be going here ever again. Shouldn’t have gone in the first place from previous experience.
If there was an option to rate you with rotten eggs, I would do that for you! Team Kairali, you have disappointed me yet again. I was hoping you would change my experience since my last visit in a positive way, but unfortunately you have gone the other way around. I was at your restaurant for Onam Sadya pre-booked tonight and had the worst dining experience of my life. Food was insufficient, service was atrocious, owners said Sadya doesn’t include yoghurt rice, we were expected to share 2 papadaams between four of us and upon asking were told, this is all you get. The poster advertised 25 items but we hardly got 10 or less. Very disappointed, we paid $29 per person for food worth not even $10.
Had amazing kerala food in NZ..Must try if you miss authentic Kerala food like kappa biryani, fish fry ,appam and prawns curry. Its spicy, its tasty and just a drive away from the city..The kappa biryani could have been better but overall it was delicious..Must try the prawns....
I got the Sadhya for one person which I booked two weeks ago and confirmed day before, they were upset about that without even letting me know over phone. Okay that’s fine, i did eventually get it after waiting for more than hour. That’s fine I understand it’s busy, I DID NOT GET THE BEETROOT THORAN OR PAYSAM. There is nothing sweet in the whole meal. It’s so disappointing and I am upset, as someone not from your culture who appreciates your food and is excited to eat the food on a festival that is once a year and be a part of it all. You scam the person thinking they don’t know anything about the food which I do a little bit apparently. I feel sad and it’s the worst experience. It’s so sad and shame on you. You don’t represent even 1% of the beauty that your culture and food is. Tried calling, nobody picking up the phone. EDITED: after multiple calls and tries, got through. Explained to the owner, There were no apologies he just said it was busy, yes it was I understand I said, and every year it’s busier than the previous one but each time it’s as mismanaged and disorganised as ever. Anyway, he told me you can come and get the beetroot pachadi and paysam. I told him I had taken time off specifically for lunch and can only return in the evening I really wanted the sweet dish. Went there 24 kms later, he had forgotten it was not just paysam. I told him I’m here to collect the paysam and the BEETROOT pachadi. He gave me those two and I left.
Took a take away of Onam sadya. Each plate was priced at $27 which is not the problem. We bough 2 plates and except for the quantity of rice , everything else was very minimal. And the taste was pathetic would be an understatement. The sambar was like water, the avial onlg had drumsticks Big waste of money and completely ruined the dinner on a special occasion
Poor service, insufficient quantity served for the amount charged, did not attend to needs nor serve food properly, had to call out several times as only partial food served, half of the items weren't on offer, though they advertised 25 items! Staff were argumentative, and ignorant. All in all an unpleasant experience on a festive day. Disappointed!
Nice authentic food. Enjoyed the kerala food here. Just a small feedback as service can be faster. Really enjoyed kottayam style dishes
